The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
1.4%.
Obviously it's much higher than that in areas like Long Island and much lower than that in areas like rural North Dakota.
Six million is the going number....... but I think that is way low.
You're correct. I used the wrong word. Your replacementword is correct. I do not wish to misstate what I said about a known drug offender. I guess I should spend more time worrying about Rush!
Dear sinkspur,
"If we should avoid 'kicking anybody when they're down' (especially alcoholics who knowingly take a drink and then drive), then I'll brook no more trashing of priests who abused minors.
"Deal?"
I think you might be asking the wrong party for a deal. Although I condemn the actions of priests who have abused minors, and am happy to see them removed from ministry, and even punished for their crimes, I don't think I spend too much time trashing them. I've hoped and prayed for their salvation, too.
However, I don't think that driving drunk and child abuse are quite comparable.
As well, regarding Mr. Gibson, I'm just not sure that all your conclusions regarding him are true. I don't think it's at all proven that he's an anti-semite. We know that anti-semitic crap is in his head. But we also know how it got there.
Many of us have heard crap from our fathers over the years. As we mature, we learn to separate the garbage from the good stuff, and we learn not to believe the garbage. But I know that in my weak moments, I've wondered if the garbage my own father has said is true, even though in my stronger moments, it hasn't been a question. I wonder, if I were drunk, might I repeat some of the stupid things my own father has said?
I guess I was a little surprised at your defense last night, and suffered a bit of mental whiplash at your shift today.
For myself, I was reasonably certain last night that it was likely all true (but thought it rash judgment to say so publicly - I still held out the benefit of the doubt). Thus, today, I'm unsurprised at Mr. Gibson's admission.
I condemn Mr. Gibson's anti-semitic remarks, his disrespectful comments toward the police, and most of all, his driving while drunk.
But beyond that, I'll just try to remember to pray for him.
Addiction's a bitch.

My father was an a**. I was not responsible for his actions.
Get real, dude...
Grandma. :)
Everything is clearer now.
No. I have no reason to explain either of my parents to anyone. And my parents made waves and yes, I was asked. I even had relatives who disliked me ONLY because they disliked my parents. Ain't THAT fairness.
I have to leave right now but would like to continue to chat when I get back.
That means that conservative Jewry is something like .34% of the population, since around 76% voted for Kerry.
Pat Buchanan is cursing God right now for not making him sexy....
Agreed. But face it--the same MSM that has given a pass to a whole left-wing fringe of anti-semites, and excused the vicious anti-semitic sentiments of whole communities of Middle Easterners will tie Mel around the necks of conservatives who have been huge supporters of Israel.
And does Irael equal support of Jews. I say emphatically YES. How else are Jews supposed to defend their lives, if they are denied the powers of nationhood to do so in the worst case scenario?
BY the way I was just looking up Jewish population in the USA by state. Wyoming has only 400.
Yoi!
Fear
1. A feeling of agitation and anxiety caused by the presence or imminence of danger.
2. A state or condition marked by this feeling: living in fear.
I don't know Hildy, but if I were a Jew, I would expect that hearing someone that many people look up to (for whatever reason), say "All war is the fault of the Jews", (if that is what he said), with everything thats going on in the world, I would be angry, and more frightened than I already was.
;-)
LOL!
Learn something new every day!
So he wasn't "out of his mind" when he spewed the Jewhatred....
It's not even about him anymore...it's out there...the words...THEY'RE OUT THERE...
To sum up: let's keep Mel's stupid ignorance in perspective. It isn't limited to Jews, and it isn't different than a lot of the anti-war left that the MSM adores.
In the political climate today...where every Jew is a target...it is worse.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
You, LdS, just don't wish to believe him. You'd rather just peer down every dark alley and swear Himmler was standing menacingly at the end of it.
You have still not addressed my original question of providing the evidence of the BIIIGGGG drug usage by Rush. You make that big statement, and confirm it again in your most recent post, and you still don't back it up. Tell me how you KNOW that it did not occur as a result of having severe back pain, like others who have accidentally gotten hooked on it. You have made your charge against Rush on 3 posts now, but I have yet to see you give evidence to back it up. Come on, it's put up or shut up time.
Who crezated that climate? Mel? The Passion? Or rabid Islamo-fascists, their far left hate America enablers, and good ol' Europe elites?
Being drunk is never an excuse for bad and dangerous behavior. Go ask all the people who ride buses everyday because their licenses were taken away because they were driving drunk. I'm so surprised people at FR would use the "HE WAS DRUNK" defense to justify this outrageous display of anti-semitism.
But on another note that people here might understand is now ALL the people who said Gibson made THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST to push his anti-semetic feelings are having one big laugh now...because THEY WERE RIGHT. And I was one Jew who defended him. But no more.
I'll reply Mon or Tues, when hopefully you're less histrionic.
Shalom, milady.
