Port of Entry
Military.com ^ | February 13, 2006 | Frank Gaffney

Posted on 02/19/2006 5:07:48 PM PST by Sweetjustusnow

How would you feel if, in the aftermath of 9/11, the U.S. government had decided to contract out airport security to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the country where most of the operational planning and financing of the attacks occurred? My guess is you, like most Americans, would think it a lunatic idea, one that could clear the way for still more terror in this country. You probably would want to know who on earth approved such a plan -- and be determined to prevent it from happening.

"No problem, BTW when are you going to take up a collection to make an altar to worship at Frank Gaffney."

Maybe I'll build next to your altar of Dubya Bush at the Mexican border where a giant banner reads: "THERE'S NO ILLEGAL INVASION EITHER"

"Yeah, Frank Gaffney is merely an uninformed neophyte in U.S. security matters..."

So you're saying that his judgement on this issue is beyond questioning, that he never makes a single solitary mistake?

"Maybe you're right -- I should differ to armchair Freepers specializing in one-handed keyboard strokes."

Since you're insisting that we should defer to you, that's what you're insisting that everyone else do.

Do you even have any idea what "port operations" specifically entails, or are you relying on what someone else (who may have am undisclosed financial interest) has to say about this?

You gonna answer my question? Do you think Gaffney knows more about this than the President?

"Fmr. Asst. Sec of Defense Gaffney. knows nothing about national security."

Are you also asserting that Gaffney has never, ever made a mistake--and that he never will?

"Is the President of the United States an 'uniformed neophyte in National Security matters' too?"

No, just CLUELESS...

Gee -- we can all attest to the great job he's done at the Mexican Border since 9/11, I guess you're right...

What -- only about 5,000,000 unregistered "guests" have popped in since then.

"My biggest gripe about the Bush administration is that they never push for national security if it inconveniences corporate interests"

Well since the UAE has set up a joint venture with the Palestinians, I guess you could say they are pursuing Islam's goals.

The purpose of establishing such venture is to explore the investment opportunities in Palestine

Forget there is no Palestine.....yet.

Actually Bush has stated many times there is an immigration problem and wants to fix it, but then you got people like tancredo who refuses to work with such good conservatives such as Kyl/Cornyn and get a good bill through, but IMO, tancredo and his partner bay buchanan want to keep the issue becuase it brings in donations to their PAC. Kinda of like what jesse jackson does to keep his donations flowing.

Reading the uninformed (except by blast-faxes and mass emailings from parties that may have an undisclosed pecuniary interest in this mess) comments posted here, I am reminded of my old first sergeant's infamous assessment of my platoon at Fort Jackson:

"If brains were rifle oil, all of you put together wouldn't have enough to grease the dynamo in a firefly's a$$."

But, according to some of you, Gaffney apparently knows more than the President!

Certainly the President is probably more informed of the current national security situation. But, he has a lot less political crap, and pandering to foriegn countries to worry about.

Misleading comparison right off the bat.

A terminal operator isn't contracted to do Port security.

Of course he has NO credentials. Certain FREEPERS know more! (D@mn, I'm so dumb!)

Of course not. I was simply pointing out his credentials.

If the UAE is in a position to in ANY way subvert port security, the deal should be stopped. Even if they are not directly in charge of security.

Pointing to his credentials instead of to his argument is the logical fallacy of "appeal to authority."

Having read Gaffney's material on this, I wonder if he has any idea what is involved in port operations--and if he is mistakenly under the impression that port operations are (or, even worse, should be) "professionalized" by the federal government taking charge of all aspects, as they have with airport security.

Here is the problem: The President doesn't have the luxury of telling or explaining everything to everyone's satisfaction. They can only go on what they know and either trust him, or people in the media to interpret most of his activities. There is always a natural tendency to assume that what you don't know, doesn't exist. Its just like with the NSA controversy. FReepers didn't know about the program, so some might have assumed that Bush was not doing all he could to fight terrorism on our shores.

Some folks might have taken the leak of that information to calm their paranoia, upon finding out about that program and assumed that there are probably hundreds or thousands of secret programs in place to help protect us that we will never know about.

Many use the borders as an example of Bush inaction, without ever considering that in fact, they have no idea what Bush is, or is not doing about Border security or anything else.

That kind of perspective requires one to have the ability to think, gather facts and make a determination based upon them. Instead, people on the left and an increasing number of people on the right have traded that ability for believing whatever fits with their own prevailing viewpoint.

You can neither argue or debate with these people, because the facts have no bearing on their opinions. They only say what they believe to be true, and never take the time to find out whether or not they are wrong.
