Whether the professor is a left-wing idiot or not doesn't change the fact that an attack on him physically, if it happened, is wrong.

I agree. But if it was a reaction to the professor's inflammatory language it was not unprovoked. He wouldn't have those bruises if he had the sense to refrain from establishing a university class dedicated to the ridicule of other people's beliefs.
