Who had been talking about Rizzio - he was on a fox show tonight about the other PI that's been arrested in LA - what a character.

it was YOU that was talking about him huh? (Sorry I can't remember all the lines that weave in and out of this) I was surprised by him physically - I expected a true tough guy - and I'm sure he plays dirty, but he kind of seemed like an ol' blowhard - he didn't match up to what I had built up in my head.

From Scared Monkeys:

Natalee Holloway Disappearance Still Weighs on Aruba's Tourism

Snip...It seems like all the focus has been lately in Aruba what effects will the Natalee Holloway investigation have on tourism. Just recently there was an A.M. Digital article, 'Fewer airline passengers to Aruba in the third quarter of 2005'; and further Aruban tourism concerns, 'Tourism Officials discuss media coverage of Holloway disappearance'. There was also a rather telling New York Times article entitled, 'Disappearance Still Weighs on Aruba's Tourism'.

Snip...
Although many Arubans are concerned and consider the event just a tragic one that all wished could be solved, I think what many miss especially those in the tourism industry is just how rather callous it is to continue to reference the effects on tourism rather than focusing on how a missing persons case was handled from the outset and why three suspects remain free today without restrictions.

Snip...
However, American citizens have a freedom of choice of where to spend their vacation dollars. Those that have always gone to Aruba and or have time sharing will probably always go to Aruba as an island destination.

However, there are many first time travelers who only need a doubt in their mind or a cause to support that may choose to go else where.

Time will tell, but rather then telling us about how tourism will be affected, solve the missing persons case at hand and please do not forget that people's perceptions of how things are being handled is important also.

Suspect shouts out with joy after conviction

ARUBA – A cheering suspect hugged his lawyer when the judge spoke out his release. He was actually sentenced for his involvement in the Santana di cacho-case, but he has been in custody long enough and was released immediately.

There were in total 21 suspects that were taken before the judge for their involvement in the massive international drug-smuggling case. The Public prosecutor (OM) considers R.C. as one of the smaller fishes in the case where three bags with drugs were brought ashore at Boca Prins and then taken to Tanki Leendert.

C. was the driver of one of the cars that transported the drugs. He said that he didn’t know what was going on and that he didn’t help putting the drugs in the car. He was paid for driving the car. “I was promised 1000 dollars, but I only got 900 florins.”

The OM was of the opinion that C. should receive a punishment that makes up for the amount of drugs that was brought ashore. “He admitted guilt and is guilty of conspiracy.” The judge considered the clean police record of the suspect important and also the fact that C. didn’t actually touch the drugs. “The demanded punishment is appropriate, but I sentence him 240 days of which 120 is conditional with two years probation.”

On 9-16 the ARUBAN newspaper “Amigoe” wrote:

(QUOTE)

During a gathering for the European-Dutch population on the island that was organized by opposition AVP in Club Havana earlier this week, former chief of police Jan van der Straten expressed heavy criticism on the ‘unprecedented pressure’ of the current government on the Public Prosecutor (OM) and the police. Reliable sources within the OM confirmed this situation.

The AVP invited Van der Straten as guest speaker. He used the occasion to talk about the enormous pressure that the Oduber-cabinet had put on the OM and the police in the past period of office. “Not only the system is under unprecedented pressure, but also individuals experience that pressure and are literally being threatened and fired. The government doesn’t even hesitate taking it to the lowest degenerated level.” He even gave a concrete example of intimidation that he experienced: “Isn’t it something when the Prime Minister gives the order to retrieve Van der Straten’s possessions and afterwards comment about these in public?” He didn’t want to go into details about what he called ‘examples where people’s privacy was invaded and where people are locked up because of their actions and expressions.”

Van der Straten says that the Oduber-cabinet won’t last: “The nation does not want a prime minister that has time for such matters. Short term thinking and short term actions are not in the interest of the nation and definitely do not contribute to the increase of the integrity. Oduber will not get the absolute majority and he will then get out. Those were his words, not mine.”

He also criticized the government’s security policy: “You don’t increase the safety in Aruba by giving everybody weapons. You don’t increase the safety by establishing shooting associations with an international character. You don’t increase the safety by throwing hunting methods at illegal persons, while you should have taken actions long before they got here. You don’t increase the safety by appointing people in the police corps that have not been screened enough. You don’t increase the safety by continuously undermining the authority of the Corps management with all sorts of memo’s of so-called advisors. You don’t increase the safety by calling police officers ‘scouts’ and continuously undermining the confidence of the Corps. You increase the safety by taking a model position in the field of openness, honesty, integrity, vision, and decisiveness.

AVP-leader Mike Eman thanked Van der Straten for giving his opinion: “It is very important when a person like Van der Straten that knows the comings and goings in our society, gives such distress signals. I think that we have to take this very serious and that we cannot continue like this. A radical change is necessary after September 23rd.

To: Althor

Morning Althor,

After a thorough perusal of you posts and logic concerning this case. I would have to acknowledge the following.

1. You are an aruban or dutch citizen who hates Americans, the truth and blind justice.

2. You suffer from a distorted sense of justice in which the murderer(s) are viewed as the victims.

3. Possibly, since you are not so popular with the opposite sex, may feel Natalee deserved her fate.

4. Perhaps the four perps did the same thing you covertly desire to commit in life.

5. Your intellect and character are those fashioned by the radical hippies, teachers, professors of the commie left wing fanatics.(60's mentality)

6. You may think yo are cute and suave, but in reality you are a nut-case with an attitude.

In closing, when the day of Armegeddon arrives, please do not look for us Patriotic and Proud Americans to cover your back.

P.S. When you lay with the aruban/dutch, fleas, ticks and parasites you often get bitten severely.

" For I knew I was bound by the covenant, sword and arm of the Lord."

Fireside Conversations,

The fresh air is sweet.

So true, RGVTx.

This is an interesting article about drugs flowing through Aruba:

"Natalee Holloway is Not Aruba's Only Crime Problem"

By Jim Kouri
Aug 10, 2005

Snip...
When Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway went missing in Aruba, America and the world began to take a close look at the island. The way they have handled the Natalee Holloway case has put the tiny islands’ police department and courts under a high powered microscope. But if you think the disappearance of Natalee Holloway is Aruba’s only problem when it comes to the issues of crime, think again.

Located only 20 miles off the coast of Venezuela, the island paradise of Aruba serves as a transshipment point for illicit drugs—primarily cocaine from South America.

Smugglers generally move large loads of cocaine into Aruba on fishing vessels, private yachts, and go-fast boats. They also move drugs out of Aruba inside maritime containerized cargo and airfreight.

Drug trafficking organizations continue to exploit Aruba’s air and sea links to the continental United States, South America, Europe, Puerto Rico, and other Caribbean nations. Most of the cocaine transiting Aruba is destined for European markets—primarily the Netherlands.

On second thought, I wonder if Althor is just a screen name for one of the VDS/Aruba/ALE/Dutch crowd? I gotta believe that Aruba is suffering some lack of American dollars. When DomPIG starts accusing Beth of stealing the money raised to look for Natalee, that's it for me. He's no better than Van der Straaten. NOW the Dutch lab is just too busy to get to this tape. Mercenaries are the ONLY way to go.
