Just reposting this in case anyone wishes to donate to TES.

"Each day leaders had to assess their chances of finding Holloway against how much money they had to continue working, said Marish, declining to give funding details."

If you don't want to travel with your cellular phone, or if you don't have a GSM cellular, you can rent a phone in Aruba. Contact Charles Croes at 730-0001 for any rental details.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1429067/posts?page=4773#4773

Charlies Croes does not know the Twitty's - he has a friend that was helping the twitty's. This person called Charlies Croes because he owns a cell phone rental co on th island.

Repeat of Greta...

Charlies Croes: There was apparently a cell phone call made and he was calling me, betting or hoping that the phone call was made from one of our phones, so that is why he called me.

Greta: What time did he call you?

Charlies Croes: About 11:30 (I take it was 11:30 pm Monday night as Charlies Croes met up with the mystery person and the Twitty's after this conversation at a gas station in Aruba.)

Greta: What did he say to you?

Charlies Croes: He told me that he needed my help and I asked him what it was about and he told me that it had something to do with a cellphone and I didn't relate to it anything but work at that point and he said there is a possibility that a phone call was made using one of our phones and I said "ok" and he said it is very very important and I said fine and I asked him to go into further details and he did and I made arrangements to go see him.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1429067/posts?page=4781#4781

Ok... the phone call discussion comes up again in the interview Croes is at the gas station with Beth Twitty. Greta asks Croes if the phone call discussion was brought up while talking to Beth at the gas station. Croes says yes... Greta says after you listen to the call several times and hung up with the person in the states, what did you do next.

After that we spoke for awhile then we left...

Just tossing out a few questions:

Who rented the Digicel GSM cell phone?

Could Natalee have rented a cell phone because she could configure her own phone? (There should be a contract.)

Did she place a call to her home and leave a message with the calling information?

Could a call have been placed near the vdS home and picked up by one of the 15 Digicel towers?

Is that why Beth is so certain that Natalee was at the vdS home at 3:15 am?

Subjects:  Drug trafficking,  Drug policy
Locations:  Aruba,  Netherlands Antilles
Author(s):  Clinton, William J

Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents. Washington: Dec 9, 1996. Vol. 32, Iss. 49;  pg. 2453, 2 pgs

Abstract

In a letter to the leaders of Congress, Pres Clinton lists the countries that have been judged to be major illicit drug-producing or drug-transit countries. Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles are the most recent additions to this group of nations.
Dear Mr. Chairman: (Dear Ranking Member: )

In accordance with the provisions of section 490(h) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (FAA), as amended, I have determined that the following countries are major illicit drug-producing or drug-transit countries: Afghanistan, Aruba, The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Jamaica, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela, and Vietnam. These countries have been selected on the basis of information from the March 1, 1996, International Narcotics Control Strategy Report and from other United States Government sources.

This year, I have added Aruba to the list of major illicit drug-transit countries. At the same time, I am adding the Netherlands Antilles to those countries that we monitor as potentially significant drug-transit countries. These already include Cuba, Turkey, the Balkan Route countries and the former poppygrowing countries of Central Asia.

Aruba. In the past 2 years, there has been a major shift in drug trafficking patterns, as enforcement activities in Mexico, the western Caribbean, and The Bahamas have pushed trafficking routes eastward. Taking advantage of the limited enforcement capabilities of most eastern Caribbean countries, Colombian drug syndicates have been routing U.S.bound cocaine and heroin through the region. Consequently, countries that in the past have been peripheral to the drug trade have now taken on major roles that significantly affect the United States. While all of the eastern Caribbean is vulnerable to exploitation by traffickers, we have identified Aruba as a major drug-transit country. Aruba is situated on a major drug-transit route, with the vast majority of the cocaine and heroin that transits Aruba destined for the United States.

Cocaine trafficking through Aruba to Puerto Rico continues to involve both transshipment through Aruba and redistribution from Aruba as a hub to other locations. Cocaine is smuggled by ship via Aruba, using commercial vessels, cruise ships, pleasure craft, and fishing boats. In addition, according to the DEA, traffickers use Aruba's freezone facilities to engage in transit of bulk shipments of cocaine without scrutiny by local officials. A substantial portion of the free-zone's businesses in Aruba are owned and operated by members of the Mansur family, who have been indicted in the United States on charges of conspiracy to launder trafficking proceeds.

Netherlands Antilles. Analysis of the trafficking patterns indicates that there is considerable drug activity taking place around the Netherlands Antilles, especially around St. Maarten. Although, at present, we have only anecdotal information, it is possible that significant quantities of U.S.-bound drugs are involved.

Turkey and Other Balkan Route Countries. Although I am still concerned about the large volume of Southwest Asian heroin moving through Turkey and neighboring countries to Western Europe along the Balkan Route, there is no clear evidence that this heroin significantly affects the United States. If in the future it is determined that heroin transiting Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, the former Republic of Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Croatia, the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, or other European countries on the Balkan Route significantly affects the United States, I will add the relevant countries to the "majors" list.

Cuba. Cuba's geographical position astride one of the principal Caribbean trafficking routes to the United States makes it a logical candidate for consideration for the "majors" list. While there continue to be some credible reports that trafficking syndicates use Cuban territory (including waters and airspace) for moving drugs, it has not been confirmed that this traffic carries significant quantities of cocaine or heroin to the United States.

Central Asia. In 1996, the State Department conducted probe efforts in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, traditional poppy-growing areas of the former Soviet Union. These probes did not show significant opium poppy cultivation. If ongoing analysis reveals cultivation of 1,000 hectares or more of poppy, I will add such countries to the "majors" list at the appropriate time.

Major Cannabis Producers. While Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, the Philippines, and South Africa are important cannabis producers, they do not appear on the list since I have determined, pursuant to FAA section 481(a)(2), that in all cases the cannabis is either consumed locally or exported to countries other than the United States, and thus, such illicit cannabis production does not significantly affect the United States.

Sincerely, William J. Clinton

NOTE: Identical letters were sent to Jesse Helms, chairman, and Claiborne Pell, ranking member, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations; Mark O. Hatfield, chairman, and Robert C. Byrd, ranking member, Senate Committee on Appropriations; Benjamin A. Gilman, chairman, and Lee H. Hamilton, ranking member, House Committee on International Relations; and Robert L. Livingston, chairman, and David R. Obey, ranking member, House Committee on Appropriations. This letter was released by the Office of the Press Secretary on December 3.

Prosecutor: Aruban judge told son 'when there is no body you don't have a case'

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) — The father of a Dutch teenager arrested in the disappearance of a young U.S. woman told his son and his two friends that "when there is no body you don't have a case," Aruba's attorney general said Wednesday.

Paul van der Sloot, a judge in training in Aruba, gave his 17-year-old son Joran van der Sloot and two Surinamese brothers legal advice the day after 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared, District Attorney Caren Janssen told MSNBC in an interview.

"They spoke about the situation that when there is no body you don't have a case, and that was already in the first day after the disappearance," Janssen said.

Janssen said that the elder van der Sloot had obstructed the investigation by asking a friend of Joran, who had been interrogated by police, what he had told them.

Paul van der Sloot, 52, was arrested last Thursday in the disappearance but released Sunday when a judge ruled there wasn't enough evidence to hold him.

Janssen told MSNBC that he was arrested because investigators believed he was also a suspect in the disappearance.

Janssen also said that a month after Holloway's May 30 disappearance, investigators had found nothing concrete to suggest she was dead.

Calls to Janssen seeking further comment late Wednesday were not returned.

Joran van der Sloot and his Surinamese friends, brothers Deepak Kalpoe, 21, and Satish Kalpoe, 18, were arrested June 9. No one has been charged.

Also Wednesday, Steve Croes, a disc jockey who was arrested and held 10 days before being released Monday, told The Associated Press that his detention was based on a lie he told police.

Croes, 26, said he told police he had seen Joran van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers drop Holloway off at the Holiday Inn the night she disappeared, as the three originally told police.

"That was a lie," Croes told the AP during an interview Wednesday night. "I didn't even know those guys and they didn't know me."

Croes said that while he was at an Internet cafe a few days after Holloway's disappearance, he heard Deepak Kalpoe talking on a cell phone about how the young men had dropped Holloway off. Croes said the story seemed plausible and he went around repeating it, adding that he had seen them drop her off. Police questioned and then arrested him, Croes said.

"I learned that if you don't know something, keep your mouth shut," said Croes. He said has veen fired from his disc jockey job on the Tattoo party boat.

Hope this is not a duplicate, but this is a MUST READ on the Dutch de-criminalizing acts that are still on US law books. Probably applies to all of its other territories too - Curacao and Bonaire.

Lurker here,

I heard the parents say that they had information which, if announced, would be "devastating".

Could "date rape" be a HUGE issue in Aruba...are other victims stepping forward?
