I think you answered your own question.
I daresay the powers that be in Aruba finally realized that people were going to stop going to Aruba NOT because a girl was killed but because their legal system is so opaque!! [and corrupt?]
650............they've been charged all along.....with murder.......AP says that the prosecutor didn't announce it because of deference to the family.
Right. I can't believe they'd keep her body and not tell her parents.
holy mackerel
ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Three young men were charged with murder in the disappearance of an Alabama teenager at the time they were arrested, more than three weeks ago, Aruba's chief prosecutor told The Associated Press on Friday.
It was not announced at the time to protect the family of 18-year-old honors student Natalee Holloway, said Attorney General Karin Janssen.
"The three have been charged with the murder of Natalee Holloway from the beginning" of their arrest 10 days after the young woman went missing May 30, she said in an interview.
"At the time, we didn't want to upset the (Holloway) family talking about murder while they searched," she explained.
Janssen said the information was kept quiet in order not to compromise the investigation. Authorities have said they have no physical evidence suggesting Holloway is dead.

Post subject: CNN says there are conflicting reports about the charges
Reply with quote
CNN has really poo-pooed the reports coming across the wires which MSNBC and Fox have reported on.
CNN claims that they have spoken to THREE individuals who all have unequivocably stated that:
There has been absolutely NO change in status of the three boys arrested.
CNN presumes that there has been some mistranslation of a Dutch legal term which has led to the spate of reports flying across the newswires.
It sounds like "Geraldo On Steroids" or something, lol --- I am OUTTA here, this is simply ridiculous! Laughing
Can someone give me a short rundown of what's been happening this week? No tv or puter so I'm in the dark. Last I heard they let Joran's father go....from there on I haven't heard a thing.
Nothing surprises me about this. I spent 2 years on a federal grand jury looking into drugs and money laundering involving neighboring islands.
Unless the leak could have been used as a technicality to remove that evidence from the trial. Perhaps the prosecutor was trying to tie up the loose ends enough to file formal charges and could not let the leak hang out there and jeopardize the case. In hindsight, Natalee's family would prefer that the perps be convicted once the leak had occurred rather than Perp Defenders getting their client perps released when they really had murdered Natalee.
The retractions are a good clue as well. IMO.
Not much........but see 727 for the latest. It's been real quiet this week.
Am I so stupid that I don't understand this? Why would the police/justice department LIE to the family and all who support them for THREE WEEKS? Which is more upsetting??????
Nothing has really happened until the announcement just a few minutes ago. Searched with no results --- and then yesterday we learned that the lead prosecutor had taken a vacation day, so we were all down and out about that and mad.
So the boys are still sticking to their story? No confessions?
Concur; it is possible they have some remains, perhaps not all.
Exactly, what I'm saying.
NOTHING w/Aruba would SURPRISE ME.
Not that we know of.
Oh, but the father did tell the boys "No body, no crime" when he was "helping" them..........says the chief prosecutor!
Oh, let me have my little mob fantasy. LOL!
Honestly, I had a long message about the Aruban mafia typed up when this news broke. The police chief sentence was at the tail end of it so I didn't want all of it to go to waste!
The lawyer last night said that they have the physical evidence back from the Netherlands lab. Maybe they found some kind of evidence she is dead from there? Maybe the Kalpoe brothers don't watch CSI and they thought bleach could clean blood from a car?
