Doesn't the proximity of the end of that therapy to the date of the malpractice award seem a little suspicious? She had 2 years of therapy... and 13 years of a high-powered lawyer trying to have her put down.

The poor man put four years into getting his wife better before he realized that it would never happen. Four years. Do you not think he may feel just a little guilty for not having "pulled the plug" sooner, as he had promised in a private conversation with his wife?

Well, we know now that large improvements will manifest in about 6 months, but back then that was not known...so while it might seem Mr. Schiavo was a bit optimistic regarding Mrs. Schiavo's chances for recovery (probably why he gave her such good care, by the Wolfson and other accounts), you have to go by what information he had at the time. After the experimental therapy, however, I imagine he realized the futility, and then sought to carry out what he decided would be Mrs. Schiavo's preference: try to recover, but no tubes if recovery wasn't going to happen.
