Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.

In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:

"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness’ attendance or testimony."

"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.

"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

Very scary how starvation will become the number on way to off people in the future.

What if OJ and Scott Peterson were telling the truth?

Murder, even among friends, is the concern of government in this country. We have put away the old law of vendetta and honor killing. Maybe you haven't. Time to get your affairs in order.

Greer has not been brought up on charges. He has made no plea.

I'm sure he had a couple more sluts while married. That may have been why his wife had that little accident.

What I want to know is where is empty suit Senator Bill Nelson (FL) on the Terri Schaivo situation. He is nowhere to be seen or heard. Meanwhile the junior senator from Florida, Mel Martinez is heading and pushing the legislation that will keep Terri alive. Voters of Florida get rid of this useless piece of Democrat vermin called Bill Nelson in 2006.

Hey, watch it. I'm 17...well for 3 1/2 more weeks anyways.

Not all of us are featherbrained imbeciles.

If Michael Schaivo was telling the truth I wish he would have remembered before getting the jury settlement. Then this wouldn't have been an issue. There are also more humane ways to do this than to starve someone. I know it hurts if I go for most of the day ithout nourishment.

We're not talking about OJ or Scott Peterson, we're talking about a person's right to decide her fate. Michael Schiavo has said that he knows Terri Schiavo would not want to continue in her condition. What if he is right?

"They are getting ready to overturn the SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE."

With all respect to you and to George Will, I have to disagree. Marriage sanctity does not pull a curtain over and around all words, deeds, and acts of married couples. For me, there is serious question as to whether the husband is telling the truth. As far as I can see, no judge in this case has ever allowed his veracity to be an issue.

Had Terry signed a living will, I would respect her wishes. But in the absence of such, I believe judges should apply strict scrutiny to the claims of her husband.

This is a painful case and I understand how people can disagree. For me, it boils down to the fact that by essentially ruling that "the husband decides because he is the husband," the courts have essentially decided this life and death case on what I'd call a "technicality."

Don't be alarmed--the NY Times is reporting that it's not painful (sarcasm).

I'd have to agree with you. The bottom line for me, distinct from the pro life or pro choice positions, cutting through all the bs, is this: you wouldn't condemn a dog to die a slow and painful death by starvation. Aside of the fact that you'd be arrested for doing it.

I cannot imagine watching anyone, especially someone you love, die from dehydration and starvation while you watch over the course of one or two weeks. Send those food packages to the starving in third world countries though!

Be honest, cut through the bs and just smother her with a pillow or give her a lethal injection - but that won't happen because it's against the law - apparently achieving euthanasia through starvation isn't.

The responses to this situation would be very different if this were a respirator/ventilator situation.

If Michael Schiavo was in it for the money then couldn't he be a multimillionaire by just signing over the proxy to her parents?

"Greer, Felos and Mike Schiavo might be locked in a foodless, windowless chamber with one good bowie knife between them for a month or two."

Throw in a few cameras, put it on "Pay Per View";
proceeds to go to charity.
Reality TV,get the "wrestling guys" to promote it, interesting idea.
