Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.
In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:
"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness attendance or testimony."
"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.
"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

He once had integrity until the state decided to interfere in his/her private life and personal medical decisions granted by the courts 11 years ago. He has become rightfully defiant because government healthcare and bureaucrats making personal medical decisions is not yet a reality and this issue opens up government scrutiny of all healthcare matters!.
It is his intention to follow through with her verbal wishes. He is not a murderer and his lifestyle has nothing to do with his ability to continue to follow through with the same request that was attempted 11 years ago.
Of course they did; along with murderer and a lot of other stuff; and in case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of that going on around here.
As I said to you before, this USE to be a place where everybody could voice their opinions without being labeled murderers and Nazis. Not anymore.
And as long as I'm preaching, I will say one more thing: as long as I have been here, it's been an unwritten agreement among Freepers that we don't discuss other Freepers on the open forum, period, much less behind their backs, without pinging them so they can defend themselves.
Now I am not saying you did this; just using this post to you to point out how low the decorum has sunk with these Terri threads.
His "word" that she wants to die is untrustworthy.
He's a liar...how do I know? because he LIED about the wedding vow he took.
He's an adulterer and a murder, PERIOD.
And he still isn't going to say anything about baseball players messing around on their wives.
God, you show your ignorance (and/or your agenda) with every post.
Why should he?
We even dialysized him at home, and he still wanted to live.
He was also tube fed, on TPN which bypasses the stomach, for 2 years.........and he still wanted to live.
Hypothetical? Come on, I know you better than that!
Mainstream?
Like the Cathjolics who have hidden child-mol.ester priests for decades, and the Epicopalians who are more Satanic these days than LaVey ever was?
Since Schiavo let her live this long seems to me he should stand aside and allow additional study.
But once a feeding tube is started -- you can't pull it to let someone starve.
Even after starving I refused to eat lima beans. That was part of my first whole food meal. Yucch.
Do you want Congress to investigate that too?
;-)
Mean's I'm gonna' have to pull her drool tubes.
I am sure Michael would have moved on and not lived in sin as you so judge, had the state not interfered in his/her personal life 11 yrs ago.
There comes a time in life to move on and he has not been allowed to because of 11 yrs of interferance. He was dealt a terrible decision 11 yrs ago and now agony over that decision and the continual interferance has turned into resentment and defiance. Does that make him a bad person as so many try to make him out to be. As if that somehow justifys that only others have a better way but cannot say how....... like a Kerry Campaign speech.
Typical answer from a DU troll.
Now quit dancing around my question, Mr Astaire.
LOL!
Thanks for proving my point once again. You have nothing but vitrolic boilerplate to add to this discussion!
You need to cool it just a little bit.
He made a comment on marriage sanctity today for example.
That's excellent!
