For all of those who have called me every imaginable name because I dare to suggest that there are some things worse than death...I don't wish you on you anything that poor woman goes through on a minute by minute basis. Because you know so much, and are so sure that you are right because you are all so freakin self-righteous...I'm leaving FreeRepublic because I no longer want to be a part of something that has become so twisted. Hannity is right, this website has been hijacked. It was a good run...but we'll find another place. Save your jabs, I won't be reading them. To those who have privately agreed with me, and there are many, thank you. I'm just worn out and frankly, don't even care what most here think.
The facts are she died. They used cpr, invasive procedures, and life support on her. They tried to rehabilitate her. It was unsuccessful.
Florida law and the US Constitution are on my side. The case has exhausted the Florida courts and has been reviewed many times. The US Supreme Court didnt see any reason to review it.
Show me where the bible says we keep cadavers breathing. I understand your emotions and projecting yourself into her body. You are mistaken. I have seen no rational reason to continue torture of the cadaver.
I may not agree with your point of view on the subject of Terry Shiavo, but I have always found your posts to be well thought out, and have the sense to realize that all of us here, have our own perspective and our own reasons for believing as we do...
Myself, I cannot stand all the name calling that goes on...all the half truths that are spewed around...lame pictures that have nothing to do with the subject at hand...to my mind, these tactics are childish, and just not worth getting upset about, or upsetting enough to make a long time member of FR decide to leave...
I am interested in the FACTS, not some of the nonsense that folks seem to make up...and whats even worse, folks make stuff up, and think that the rest of us are going to believe such stuff...(now this often happens on threads other than the Terri Shiavo threads)...the FACTS are what is important...
As I said, I differ with you on what should happen to Terri Shiavo...I just believe she needs to be given a chance at life...but I can indeed listen to your opinion, without having to call you names, or pull some of the other lame stuff that goes on around here...
Hope you will continue to stay...
Then why do want to bother killing her?
Florida law and the US Constitution are on my side.
Not if judges had basic reading comprehension skills.
Show me where the bible says we keep cadavers breathing.
The Bible teaches that we have an obligation to protect the weak and helpless among us, and to feed and care for those who can't care for themselves. It also commands, "Thou shall not murder".
I understand your emotions and projecting yourself into her body.
Quit trying to marginalize me by trying to make me out as some kind of hysterical emotional creature. It's another lie on your part.
You are mistaken. I have seen no rational reason to continue torture of the cadaver.
Uhmmm...it is not possible to torture a cadaver, genius. Rationality is not your strong suit.
Come on, cant you come up with any rational reasons to keep the cadaver going? You havent shown me any legal, scientific, or religious reasons. All I hear are emotions backed up by your version of God. Hasnt it ever crossed your mind that you might be completely wrong on this issue? Are you perfect? Do you speak directly for God?
Is Terri Shiavo a person?
I have told you several time that she is a cadaver. There is no Terri inside that shell. And you complain judges can't read.
I find it very interesting that you find it necessary to dehumanize this young woman, even though everyone else knows quite well that she is still very much alive.
I find it interesting that, even though you ignore the Bible and our founding documents that assure the protection of our unalienable God-given rights to both life and liberty, you must dehumanize her before you kill her.
Somewhere deep in your heart, you know damned well it is wrong to murder this innocent woman.
Therefore, to protect your fragile sense of self, you have to kill her off mentally before you can join in doing it actually.
Again, the Nazi and the Communist mass killers became quite adept at that little mental protection racket. They had a number of ways to dehumanize their victims.
Only thing is, it eventually caught up with them...
You have several incorrect assumptions in your reply. Everyone else doesnt know she is alive. Actually you are in the minority. Polls show more people agree with me.
I dont ignore the bible. I just cant find anywhere in my bible that it says we have to keep cadavers going.
The Florida courts have studied and reviewed all of the issues. I happen to agree with them. The US Supreme Court did not see any constitutional issues so they refused to take the case.
You cant murder a cadaver. Calling someone that disagrees with your view a Nazi and Communist is a trick of the liberals when they dont have a rational argument to fall back on.
You can do better with some more thought. I have enjoyed as much of this as I can stand today. Ill be back tomorrow for some more fun poking holes in irrational arguments. Thanks for the debate.
You didn't poke a single hole in anything. You're delusional.
You can proclaim her to be dead til the cows come home, but it won't make it any more so.
Read it and weep.
If the law is to be followed, she must be allowed to continue to live...
Baskin and Robbins has 300 flavors of ice cream. FR has 300 different opinions on any issue. What's the big whoop? No need for anyone to spaz out.
If she is just a cadaver, then why do you care? If she's brain dead and no longer capable of thought, why do you care? She's not suffering. She's not there, right?
Maybe you're projecting YOURself into her body. I can see no rational reason why you even care.
I have heard the concerns of her husband and a lack of his duties to his wife. They have filed suit for her to be able to divorce her husband, based upon his acts as an adulter (sp) today. Facts that are not in dispute.
What I find curious are the comments by those in support of Terri (to live) seem to talk with ill will to her husband. Again and it needs repeating he may not be the best example of a husband, he should be at her side for the last 15 years hoping against hope that she would return to him. He did not do that and pursued another relationship. I think on that we can agree. But, what is interesting that the folks that are supposedly anti Terri, and why in Gods name are folks considered anti Terri that want her to come on to God, where she will once again be whole and will be waiting with open arms for her family and who knows maybe open arms for her husband. I was not in their marriage.
I have not read unkind words to the parents by those who disagree with pro Terri to live. I have not read all the comments, all the threads and I can bet somone can quickly comment with a link to said remarks.
Do the people on Free Republic who are pro-life and disagree with assisted suicide, disagree with abortion but do not feel that she has a quality of life have to fight with folks to have this discussion? Should there be a separate thread for folks who with love in their hearts feel that she is suffering have their own thread to be able to talk openly and lovingly of this sad situation so they are not in return being made to feel less them human for being very human.
I appreciate reading the documents. I appreciate reading about the law. I appreciate being informed of events of the last 15 years. I appreciate being corrected when I mistype something. I appreciate all on this thread who have discussed the Schivao case with respect and decorum.
Yet, we arrived at this discussion by thread started by a Freeper who felt (from what I have read) that folks were no longer discussing but saying hurtful words and/or pointing fingers. I can see how one can get tired of trying to defend a position that is based on conservative values but differs from those who are anti Michael/pro Terri and yet from what I have read she is pro Terri in that she does not want her to suffer. Whether a person has been on Free Republic for 6+ years or 6+ weeks we should treat each other with respect. Nobody should feel they have to avoid a thread, for what ever the reason. A personal value that should be applauded, respected and yes if needed debated.
Terri's situation is heartbreaking. I have said that as a daughter (if she is like me) wound not want her loved ones at odds with one another. Yes, I am interjecting my personal thought with that. I hope that when the final decision comes down that all know that each loves her in their own way and that they will accept courts decision and be at her side.
We need to make sure that each of us has our desires if faced with a similar situation in writing or better on video. Find our if legally we can state if given the same circumstance that are will is honored.
Finally thank you Hildy for giving us a thread where we can face our own demons while discussing this very sad and important family/legal issue.
God Bless Terri and her family.
LOL
That just might win the award for the biggest "stretch" I've seen so far this year.
So now you are going to trash every movie with a murder in it, somewhere in the plot.
LOL, looking forward to that. Should keep you busy, 24/7/365.
I hope one or two take something from them them.
Well said. : )
Beautiful post. Thank you - again!
It is a tough subject when you are alive and healthy it can only be devastating if one is ill and no documents of your requests are available. Again, thank you for your comment as well.
