"Who gets to decide who can come and who doesn't? "

Contrary to the Buchanan/Tancredo sloganeering, we do not have open borders. Border jumping can be very difficult, dangerous and expensive with no guarantee of success.

Once here there is no guarantee of work. There is the constant threat of being caught. And there is always the yearning for home and family.

But as long as our need for immigrant labor is great enough and their desperation to support their families strong enough they will find the way to get here.

If we ever decide that there are too many illegal immigrant laborers all we have to do is start busting employers. But you and I both know that no mayor or governor wants to bust taxpaying businesses.

I propose that the federal government assemble a special ICE force to bust employers of illegals and then ask Congress which members would like them to come into their district first. Do you think Tancredo would ask them to bust the employers in his district?

We don't have open borders by any stretch. What we don't have is sealed borders. And no country in the world does. The closest anyone ever came to it was on a very local basis with the Berlin Wall. A little over a hundred miles in length.

Even it was breached quite a few times.

We can't possibly seal our borders. How many thousands of miles of unguarded coastline do we have?

Give me a few thousand dollars and I promise you that I can enter any country in the world illegally and without their knowledge.

The only way to prevent illegal border crossings is to remove the incentive for doing that. Make legal crossings attractive, and illegal ones less desirable. It's the only approach that can work.

RE: your #2034

Those are good points but if you really want to see where it's at google, "no-match" letters

(Ya see, we really, really do know who they are and who hires them. The laws are not broken.)

It's not only business it's the immigrant "rights" industry that goes ballistic. Of course that industry includes lawyers, lawyers, lots of lawyers. Courts courts courts. Protests, protests, protests. Lobbying, lobbying, lobbying, Money, money, money.

As much as I am against shiny new laws for business, government, et al. to ignore I'd support the President if he would be up front.

To wit, no matter what the President proposes and Congress disposes the major howling will be from the immigrant rights "industry."

Prove to us, Mr. President, that you can thwart their efforts to circumvent and outright violate the new laws with impunity. No more more of the same from them, business, and government!

You have NO idea what you're talking about. Tancredo and Buchanan did not just wake up one morning and say they want to do something about the border. People who live on the border who see the problem showed it to them and woke them up to the problem. I live on the border and I'm far more qualified than you to determine if we have wide open border. I can see it with my own two eyes and, yes, the border is wide open!

And another thing, I'm sick of you trashing good people like Tom Tancredo and Pat Buchanan. You have proven that you aren't worthy to lick the bottom of their boots. I don't agree with everything they say, but they're both well educated, well spoken, well informed and are right on a number of issues. I've taken to disagreeing with Buchanan's assessment of the WOT, but his positions on border security and illegal immigration are spot on. I've met both men and your constant attacks against them are just plain wrong. Too many people have felt bullied by you to not stand up for Pat Buchanan and Tom Tancredo. I'm not going to be bullied by your loudmouthed disruptor troll-like charges of racism and such to anyone who might have some agreement with Buchanan and Tancredo on some issues. You need to cut that crap out.

I sense you are sliding around the issue.
It should not be out of the realm to state that illegal immigration is just that. It is prejucidical however to constantly allow one group favoritism over the rest of the world based on their ability to to sneak over the border regardless of the risk. I repeat most of the world would like to live in the US. I don't feel worthy to say who can and who can't.
Who is anyone to say that one nationality is more equal than another. That's exactly what we do when there are three mile long holes in the border and there are way too few border guards. Call it what you want but if it's not open borders it's real close.

No open borders ??? LOL, the *only* ones held at our borders are illegals who have previously committed a crime in the USA, or ones that are on *our known* list of terrorists.

Any mexican laborer is given MULTIPLE chances to SUCCEED finally sneak in, even tho a first time offense calls for 6 months in jail.

Texas (only) has RELEASED some 30K 'OTM's' this year.......after only securing a *promise to appear*. However only 30 % will ever appear. (keep in mind these are only the ones we caught).

Do you have the *list* of federal laws that citizens can break, without fear of prosecution ???
