The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
Agreed. But we simultaneously have to reform our immigration laws to permit the amount of immigrant labor that businesses will need to stay in business.
Enact the guest laborer program and impose strict penalties on employers who violate it.
But right now no one is going to bust employers for doing the only thing they can to stay in business, especially when they are providing jobs to citizens also and paying lots of local taxes.
Unpatrolled borders is like playing Russian roullette with five in the wheel. The President has something up his sleeve with this, you can bet on that. [Gee, I'm still here! ... The article author is, well, full of it. BTW, Jim, you know what you get by assuming? ... Full of donkey meat. The author is full of donkey meat.]
I'm not sure how many the AF eventually received, but 13 seems too few, by a lot. They get a LOT of use these days....
I can only imagine the stress that 105 puts on the airframe when they fire it.
So you're saying that you don't believe we can control our borders? The opposite was the major point I derived from the article - if the poor USSR could control its huge borders, then the rich US can control its much smaller border with Mexico.
Notice it possible to post without insulting the person you are posting to. It's really not that difficult to do.
Best wishes!
I feel the govt. should go all out and do whatever it takes to control our borders for illegal substances and people.
Take it easy.
Hopefully you're not advocating the U.S. adopt the Soviet model for border control?
I'm not advocating mining and shooting, but large walls, plenty of soldiers, cameras (and other technology) and lots of enforcement. If that doesn't stop most, it'll stop 99% of illegals and that would be satisfactory
He's a Republican conservative who won over 60% of the vote of his constituents in the last election. Hardly a nobody extremist.
Buchanan never attracted more than 1%-2% of voters so his mini-me
Says who? In 1996 Buchanan won the New Hampshire, Alaskan and Louisiana primaries and came in second in Iowa. Only after the relentless attacks by the so-called "mainstream media" and a few in the GOP like Bill Bennett did Pat begin to slide following the Arizona primary.
Say what you want about these men, as another poster Spiff has correctly pointed out many of us don't agree with everything they say but on border security they are dead on.
"Enough already."
PEH!
What EVER were you talking about in this case, Luis?
That's was a curious thing to say.
Are you a Mod, by chance?
Ugh, I hope none of the 'bots are mods...
"Once you accept the fact that we cannot keep laborers out, what is your solution?"
That's NOT true.
Third World illegal aliens can, not only be kept out of our soil, but those already allowed in by this administration and previous administrations can be made to pack up and return to their country of origins if there is a will to do so by this president.
The vast majority of Americans don't like their nation being colonized by an alien, 3rd World mass that speaks a different language, inports different values and that are often loyal to a different country. And Americans, moreover, don't want a 3rd World legal/illegal immigration policy that brings in a massive subculture of unassimilable aliens inside the country that our forefathers build from the wilderness.
The American people have spoken on this guest worker euphemism time and time again. It's now up to the President to show some leadership and accede to the wishes of the vast majority of the people.
I think there's a pretty good possibility.
LOL Same here.
Close the borders Mr President.
I hope you realize that, as correct as you are, you are not posting to bayourod, but rather to the other FReepers that are reading your posts. You may change their opinions, but not bayourods. So keep the well thought out discussions going.
"You may change their opinions, but not bayourods."
Thanks for the advice, HighFlier.
Hopefully others, to whom the post was not addressed, will also read the posts.
It is a very critical issue.
i never said anything of the sort - i was simply responding to an element of JimRob's post that i disagreed with - opinion only, because i may have had some informaiton he did not (possibly)
