The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
WOW! Could DU and our esteemed news media be wrong?
Did I read the article wrong?
Jim and FR arent really working for the White House? There is actually disagreement?
Your reply qualifies as the most useless. Why do you even post. Can't you express why you think a post is inane? Is that too hard for you?
amnesty
n 1: a period during which offenders are exempt from punishment 2: a warrant granting release from punishment for an offense [syn: pardon] 3: the formal act of liberating someone [syn: pardon, free pardon] v : grant a pardon to (a group of people)
I think Bush's plan falls under the definition.
Then there is the other question: What makes you think that people that have been breaking the law for years will all of a sudden decide to start following it? What's the incentive. Oh, wait. I know - we'll let them collect social security. No wonder Bush wants to start working on SS right away.
I didn't get a ping, but then I don't read all of my pings because there are so many of them. I'm here anyway, and agree that this is Jim's site, always has been, and he is "free" to do with it and those who use it, as he wishes.
I miss him, too.
Laws protecting abortions, gun bans, CFR, seatbelt laws, endangered species act, laws that forbide nativity sceens, smoking bans, and copyrights.
Did you catch the comments about "Jim Robinson and his staff". Thought that had a nice ring to it.
Jim,
I oppose illegal immigration and open borders. I also support the president's guest worker program as the only rational method proposed to get a handle on the issue. We have millions of undocumented aliens and the only way to track them is to get their compliance. Finally, I think the US should have a significant number of permanent residency visas available, so that freedom loving, productive people can join us in this great experiment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_First
The America First movement was an isolationalist group that opposed United States involvement in World War II. Many prominent Americans were members, including aviator Charles Lindbergh. At its peak, America First had 800,000 members.
I lied, unitentionally of course. David Osborne pinged me at 152.
Number 3 has no bearing on today's topic. As for the other 3 - they are not desirable because....?
They put this in to sound ominous, but I kind of like it. ;)
This is why the Romans persecuted the Christians and this is why anyone who likes big govt., hates Christians. You will swear allegiance to Christ before you kneel at the Govt. altar.
when I signed on this morning the first thing I did was vote on this issue and like you I do NOT support illegal immagration or open borders, the results so far show 95% of all voters do NOT support it and are in full agreement with your "noted" statemant, so keep on keeping on ...rto
You have a problem with "Bible-thumping, NRA membership owning, middle-aged, right-wing extremist males"? Geez....maybe if I eat more granola bars it will make me more sensitive and compassionate.
Pretty sad. We can solve all crime by killing the criminals but where do we draw the line. Maybe we should build death traps within the walls of banks to prevent robberies. How about some device that crushes the criminals to death in the act of the crime. Couple dozen unspeakable and inhuman acts could virtually stop all crime except the huge backlash of protest by those sissy-girl Christians who are squeemish about blowing up families...even Mexican familes...ya' know...without a trial and stuff.
Looks like Jim Rob made a poll. Did you vote yet?
; )
However, no one speech - and no possession of medals - did more to tarnish Lindbergh's reputation or that of America First than the speech he delivered to a rally in Des Moines, Iowa on September 11, 1941. In that speech he blamed the British, the Roosevelt administration, and the Jews for drawing America into the war, proclaiming that they were all agitators.
It's your forum, I wipe my feet before I come in and try my best to behave myself.
