No.
There is nothing in the Constitution which states a state cannot seceed. The Union was a voluntary association of states, consequently, it was Lincoln who acted illegally by using force to coherce the seceeding states back into the Union.
I fully agree with you.
Have you noticed how Liberals really hate conservative Blacks? What surprises me is that so many Freepers deride Walter Williams ! Why? He is one of the best things to ever happen to the conservative movement and ranks right up there with the giants of history like Helms, Coulter, Crane, and Ashbrook. Perhaps it is because Yankees are sorta Liberals even when they are "conservative" Republicans.
True, but nothing that supports the idea that a state can secede unilaterally.
The Union was a voluntary association of states, consequently, it was Lincoln who acted illegally by using force to coherce the seceeding states back into the Union.
That's nonsense. Territories didn't just send folks to Congress and say, "Now we are a state." At best they had to ask to join, and they weren't admitted unless a majority of the existing states indicated their agreement to allowing them in through a vote in Congress. And when you get right down to it, Constitutionally the people of a territory had absolutely no say in the matter. Only congressional approval is needed to create a state, not territorial, not presidential. So please save the 'we were there voluntarily' line. States are there with permission, and permission should be needed to leave as well.
And yeah, I know the 13 original states were different. But they rarified the Constitution and are subject to the same limitation other states are.
