Okay. I just called the emergency after hours maintenance number. Turns out they painted next door. Having the fan going and the windows open has been sucking fumes into my apartment all evening. :-(
If your fan is reversible, you can try bringing outside air in. Unfortunately it would be cold air, but it might get rid of the smell.
