Correct.
"Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Holy Scriptures or by evident reason ... I consider myself convicted by the testimony of Holy Scripture, which is my basis; my conscience is captive to the Word of God. Thus I cannot and will not recant, because acting against one's conscience is neither safe nor sound. God help me. Amen." (Martin Luther)
Ok, allow me to explore this from from the negative.
In your view then, churches which do hold Christmas eve services are what? __________ Idolotrous? Blasphemous? Heretical? (these seem pretty harsh words so please fill in the blank with yours)
And accordingly, you would what? Leave such a church, or rebuke the pastor/elders, or simply not attend said services? What action, if any, would you take?
If you're going to quote Luther, it would be nice if you didn't distort him to try to support your views. Luther never proposed to do away with all Christan tradition, only Papal abuse.
Sermon for Christmas Eve; Titus 2:11-15
Martin Luther's Sermons, organized by, (gasp), the Church Year. That means all his Christman sermons are close to the top of the page.
And this is what the Lutheran church believes, which is the orthodox faith:
Article XV: Of Ecclesiastical Usages.1] Of Usages in the Church they teach that those ought to be observed which may be observed without sin, and which are profitable unto tranquillity and good order in the Church, as particular holy days, festivals, and the like.
2] Nevertheless, concerning such things men are admonished that consciences are not to be burdened, as though such observance was necessary to salvation.
3] They are admonished also that human traditions instituted to propitiate God, to merit grace, and to make satisfaction for sins, are opposed to the Gospel and the doctrine of faith. Wherefore vows and traditions concerning meats and 4] days, etc., instituted to merit grace and to make satisfaction for sins, are useless and contrary to the Gospel.
