"Going into the stands at a sporting event is one of the dumbest things a professional athlete can do."

And yet I love that footage of Mike Milbury (NHL) beating a fan with the fan's own shoe. A true sports brawl classic. No NBA melee could ever top it.

ROFL! When was that? I didn't see it, but I can picture Milbury doing that.

I remember when a fan ran into the ice and charged the Sabres bench - Rob Ray took care of the situation.

There's a great story behind that incident, too. I forget where I read this, but I believe everything here is factually correct . . .

Ray Flynn, the Boston mayor at the time, had never been to an NHL game before. A friend invited him to a Bruins game, and it just so happened to be the one at which that incident occurred. Flynn was utterly appalled at what he witnessed, mainly because he had heard of hockey's reputation for rough play -- and assumed that incidents like that one occurred at nearly every NHL game.

Soon after that, he tried to get the Boston city council to pass an ordinance requiring the Boston police to file assault charges against any athlete who was ejected from a game in Boston for some kind of misconduct on the field of play. I don't think his idea got anywhere. LOL.

There was another classic fan vs. player brawl at an NHL game a couple of years ago -- I believe in involved the Vancouver Canucks and either Edmonton or Calgary.

The fans behind one of the penalty boxes began throwing things over the glass at two players inside, and the players scaled the glass to get at them (skates and all). If it were only one player he probably would have made it without a problem, but under the weight of two players the entire sheet of glass toppled over into the stands -- trapping the culprits underneath like a couple of jack@sses underneath the surface of a frozen pond. LOL!!

I just did a search on that incident, and it turns out I was completely wrong about it. The "shoe" incident actually occurred in 1979, when Milbury was a player. The brawl I'm thinking of occurred in Boston back in the late 1980s.
