Legal question. Does getting doused with a beer justify being punched. I say no.

Professionals don't get drawn into fights with the people who pay their salaries. No excuse.

Professional is not a word that comes to mind when I think of todays NBA athletes. Or the NFL, as well as many in Baseball.

Rasheed's been a good guy with the Pistons. Not one problem whatsoever.

Coach says the whole team should have gone into the stands. More brilliance.

Nah, Jackson didn't go in to drag Artest back..he went in to get some

I think he actually hit the right guy, unlike Artest.

I know Artest has been wanting time off, but I bet the other players don't.

I bet Sterns first reaction was "Damn, there goes Christmas Day". I wasn't being facetious earlier when I posted that it is all about marketing. That is why Stern has made the big bucks---the NBA has been the best marketed of the 4 major sports, and it just blew up in his face.

Interesting thing is you don't sit in those seats where the fans were involved unless you pay some SERIOUS money.

One reason pro sports in the US have had so much less fan violence is ticket prices rising high enough that those closest to the action tend to be of the cell-phone wine-sipping variety.

That's fine. I'm just so used to people with their subtly racist inputs on professional or collegiate athletic and their false notions of nostalgia, I might have misjudged what you were saying. I apologize for insinuating that YOU were racist, but I hear it so often it's easy for me to misread or skip by certain points.

That said, much of what goes on with sports is no different than other forms of entertainment. When some actors goes on a heroine binge do we all decry the sorry state of film, or do you chalk it up to a human being a human and take the lesson from their negative behavior?

Err, so much less fan violence than, say, Europe and South America...

Okay, we're in agreement.

Btw, why was Artest (initially) lying down on the scorers' table? Was he pushed on there by one of the Pistons or was it just his attempt to chill out before things got out of hand? I only saw the film clip once, but it appeared he got up off the table once he was hit by the brew (thrown by the fan) and then all hell broke loose.

Artest's foul on Ben Wallace was unnecessarily hard, especially given the score at the time, but Ben overrreacted in a big way.

I cannot fathom why he was lying on the table either. It wasn't that he was hurt.

Just watched another replay. Stephen Jackson went after a fan who may have done nothing.

EPSN just showed scared children in the stands

And the fat fan on the floor in the Pistons jersey witha blue hat got punched in the face twice
