build a dome over our nation so that you can't go out freely and deep-sea fish

This is a serious subject. The chance of a Beslan at my son's school is very serious, 20 miles from Mexico.

You denigrate your argument when you get cute like the above. I'm talking about realistic wartime measures to go from a 20% to a 95% border stop rate, and you talk about "putting a dome over the our nation" and accuse me of being "terrorized" by terrorists.

When we do get our Beslan or Madrid, and the trail leads to your open border, I'm going to hang these posts around your neck, Little Laura.

That sounds like a complete waste of your talents. Perhaps you should do a little patrolling yourself, Sir.

What would it hurt to raise the silly color code with instructions for closing schools just as a precaution?

I've got a better idea. Take your kids out of the liberal indoctrination centers and home-school them.

Sheesh, it's so tough to get through. The POINT of a Beslan or Madrid in the USA would be to INTENTIONALLY highlight the open border, and thereby blame the attack on Bush. To "Aznar" Bush.

The 30 border crossers (let's say 20 make it through) have only a phone number to call, memorized. They are dedicated terrorists, desiring martyrdom, so they will not give up the number to the FBI. I mean, the FBI ain't gonna behead them. Won't even say boo to them, actually.

So the 20 who make it through (this is SO basic!) make a call to a vacant house with a phone answering machine, with more instructions etc on it. The instructions are cryptic, leading to an address, other phone numbers etc (Do I really have to spell out such BASIC tradecraft? It's late.)

Anyway, the 20 wind up in a safe house. The "support cell" is probably only one man. He may have some "helpers" who have no idea about the plan, they just provide vehicles etc. Very tight opsec. If you see a flaw, just tell me. The support cell (one man) has accumulated 20-30 firearms over a couple of years. No problem. This is America!

(In fact, using easily and legally purchased weapons for the terror attack will be calculated to do even more political damage to Bush.)

Explosives: if you think this is hard, you don't get out enough.

Finally, the attack. Just for the heck of it, I'll tell you what I think a planner would do: go for a tower. They will want a prolonged siege, in a place where the govt can't keep the TV cameras away. Plenty of visibility for messages on sheets, dumping headless hostage bodies etc. Makes a hostage rescue op very hard. Pick a tower with a restaurant on top, for plenty of tourist-hostages, and food and water for weeks (no need to ask for outside food, which can be drugged.)

I'd pick the Seattle Space needle, for example. Just bust in guns blazing, like in Beslan. Kill a rentacop, and take the elevators to the top, and disable them. A few office towers in Texas also come to mind.

All you need are the "shooters" who can walk in "clean" from Mexico. Spanish-speaking Moroccans (as in Madrid) would be ideal.

the logistics, manpower, and time it would take to completely secure our massively long borders would make simply going to the moon look like building a barbeque pit over a weekend.

It is a very foolish thing to suggest that the richest country in the world cannot secure its borders. We could do it easily.

Coast to Coast AM...Art Bell...is now talking about this story. The gentleman reporting is also talking about Chinese in Mexico guarding cargo coming into the country via ships. Paging Jeff Head....

Why do you feel it necessary to put down people who disagree with you? So far, I have only provided my point of view without making derogatory comments about you personally. You have a valid point of view and all I was doing was offering my view as to why I don't think this 30 man Chechec thing is likely. You seem to take the view that anyone who doesn't see things your way just doesn't understand as much as you. I don't think that is necessarily the case. Basic tradecraft does not include answering machines leading you to other places. Why would you need that? If I have the first number then I will simply call it and follow the directions just like the terrorist. It's also WAY too complicated and leaves room for errors. Contact instructions need to be simple and have a fallback. Messages leading you to other messages are ok for ransom demands, but don't cut it as good contact instructions. Basic tradecraft would be those Chechens settling in and then being contacted after a cooling off period. They would go to a library, get on the internet and create an email account. They would then deliver a benign sign of life to a predetermined e-mail address. If the terrorists have spent two or three years setting up these safe houses and cells I can't imagine them risking them like that with 30 Chechens crossing the border all carrying backpacks, most probably totally out of their cultural element and trying not to stand out. The obvious scenario to me anyway, would be to bring Arab terrorists in to the US one at a time over a period of a year or two and just let them stay as sleepers until such time as they are needed. It's just as easy as 30 Chechens across the border and a lot safer, in my opinion. The fact of the matter is, if one of those Chechens was arrested at the border the entire operation would have to be called off. If it wasn't then these terrorists are so stupid we have nothing to fear.

Yes, we could. The people that are dismissing border security and saying it cannot be done would be singing an entirely different tune over this invasion if it was happening under a Dem president.

IMHO, the invasion has already happened. Casloy's scenario is very likely to have already happened and closing the borders now, even to TMcG's 95% would be closing the barn door after the fact. If we're getting information that the government has supposedly had since August about 25 Chechens entering the US, you can bet that they've been doing it for years in groups of one's and two's. Why they would even risk a group of 25 is a good question. How many of the 9/11 terrorists were in this country ilegally? At a 95% border closure, what would be the international reaction? I'd bet that any country we closed our borders to, would close theirs to us. That's a great way to escalate a war on terrorist factions to a world war.

If, repeat if, this report is true, Bush deserves to lose this election.
................
We have more guards by far per mile on our borders than any other country.
Even Israel, with as good a military as it gets, and next to no borders compared to us, can't win eavery time.
NO ONE can - even the guard, can police every mile of our borders, north and south.
NO ONE. The fact that we haven't had any attacts since 9/11 is astounding. And we know their goal is terror before the election so that people like you seem to be will not vote for Bush.
I didn't think that would work. That most folk would not capitulate, like Spain, and bow down to the terrorists.
It was Spains cowardly actions that gave them their victory - i/e/ "IT WORKS! NOW LET'S DO IT TO AMERICA!"
So you vote for Kerry - that'll work. He'll have 'em over for brunch and they'll have a sensitive talk.
Question. since Kerry feels terrorism is only a nusisance that we should get used to living with, in the meantime,
just handle it as a law enforcement issue - who THEN is going to watch the borders???

The hypos here are not pleasant. If this done turn out to be true and an attack occurs we may finally see something done about border security. That's what it will take.
.................
There has never been, nor will there be, a country that can warch every nano-foot of 22,000 miles! Wake up!
We could every oneo f ourmilitary, our guard, our border potrol, our police, out r troops on the borders and ther;d still be miles and miles where aomeone could walk thru,
GROW UP

you aught to take a trip - walk the borders between US and Mexico - then Canada and US - then maybe you;d get an inkling of the REALITY of 22,000 miles. Much of real rugged wilderness.
Then youc ould come up with a plan, and a few million people, to watch it everywhere, every minute.
I am amzed at the people who swalloe the Dems talking points - which have llittle to do with realty,
Sounds good - but if it's so easy -why haven't THEYdone long before.

thank you for posting the map - maybe, (but I wont hold my breath) some can see just how big our borders are. And they look like and straight - don't they? they ain't. There a lot of reugged woodland/moountains.
I have an idea! Since there's obviously so many experts inhere that just know how the border can be 'shut' down - tell us how to do it.
Damn. Wake up. You couldn't shut down the borders of a state 0 oh, the roads, yeah. But not even foot of the border - not keeping someone on foot fromfinding a little 'hole' in the wall,
