A 24-foot-long ''Go Bush" banner hanging on a pizza shop across from the FleetCenter has drawn plenty of attention amid preparations for the Democratic National Convention this week. But yesterday, a city inspector stopped by and slapped Halftime Pizza with a citation for hanging an unlicensed banner.

Well, you called me enough times to KNOW that this is my real name.
And you know I can substantiate that claim.

First of all, since when has FreeRepublic been an unfettered free speech zone? And secondly, given that this is a private forum and in no way government sponsored, you have no free speech "right" here. You would think a freeper would understand the difference.

Well, the Mods have made their appearance, and the graphic still stands.
Does that satisfy your curiosity?

My comment only conerned your whining about your so-called free speech rights. If the mods are fine with your graphic that's OK with me. But it would also be OK with me if they were not.

My letter to Mr. Pasquale:
Saturday, July 24, 2004
Mr. Mark Pasquale
Halftime Pizza
115 Causeway St
Boston, MA 02114
Dear Mr. Pasquale,
I have read several articles on the internet about the "Go Bush" sign hanging on the front of your establishment. From these articles I have learned that the City of Boston has cited you for "for hanging an unlicensed banner." And that you had originally hoped to make money from feeding the delegates to the Democratic National Convention. And that, when you discovered they would be fed by the DNC, you decided to close your shop during the convention.
Mr. Pasquale you are a true Patriot. Enclosed is my check for $20. I know it's not much. But please use this to help pay the fine for your sign. And if the City of Boston decides to waive the citation, please use the money to offset your losses from being closed during the convention.
Sincerely,
upchuck

And, believe it or not, the men on ground in Iraq are just like him. If you think this is obscene, thats okay. You are entitled your opinion. You would obviously be shocked at what is said & done in the Armed Forces. I am not shocked by such things. There is a time and place for everything.
This isn't the armed forces, this isn;t the ground in iraq.
Do not equate the false conservatives who do not know any different from the liberals in terms of how they comport themselves and seek to draw attention to themselves with those "fighting for us against the WOT & in Iraq".
Not the same in any way shape or form.

"......but decided to close when he found out the delegates would be fed at private parties."
I wonder what greasy thumb deal was worked out to cater the meals.
The liberals just keep on showing their true colors. They have a convention and ace out the local merchants to have the meals offered in the convention center. Doesn't Boston have a Chamber of Commerce to stand up for the locals?
Do the Clintons have a catering service?

You would think a freeper would understand the difference. One would think so. One would also think he wouldn't stoop to base demagoguery as well.

You denigrate the US as much as any of the corrupt Boston officials with graphics such as this and give conservatives a bad name.
You make us look like hypocrite low life.
You may well be that, but most of us are not.You really need to lighten up tallhappy.
I side with Luis, you are seriously over-reacting.

I think your observation that Uncle Sam wouldn't and shouldn't be showing giving anyone the finger is right on.
I think that poster picture is in poor taste. At the same time, I think the "Belly Girl" poster telling France to "Shut the F--k Up" is an excellant way to get the point accross. For me it isn't the langauge so much as the depiction of Uncle Sam as a crude man, something that in my mind, he's not.

I called the 617-720-4578 number and even confirmed it with 411 but no one answered (12:50pm 7-24-04). I was going to order a $20.00 pizza - I planned to ask them to deliver it to a nearby homeless shelter or some such BUT no one picks up the phone! Actually I hoped to just make it a donation but if they wanted to deliver a pizza it'd be fine with me - I'd never know if they did or not. Oh well ... ;-)

I rarely post, but sitting here on a rainy day and reading this thread, made me want to respond.
First, I mailed my check to Mr. Pasquale yesterday.
Second concerning the poster shown.......It seems funny to me, that when this poster, and others like it, first circulated on the INTERNET following 9/11. Everyone thought it was wonderful. It must have been in my email box 50 times in 2 weeks. It was on patriotic websites, etc.. and no one complained, more like people high 5'd it.
No one was offended. I am still not offended, it is these signs along with others that remind us of our losses and our purpose for war.

You really need to lighten up tallhappy. Far out man.
Lighten up.
Hippy liberal mantra. That's what got us in this mess.

According to Howie Carr, contributions should be made out to Halftime Pizza, but mailed to WRKO, Guest Street, Boston 02116.
