I am a computer consultant specializing in helping big companies put in large-scale operational ERP (Payroll, HR, Financials) systems.

Cool. Do you usually work with companies that are starting from scratch, or do you try to improve the systems that are already in place?

Sorta both. I implement PeopleSoft systems, so sometimes it is an upgrade and sometimes it is a new installation. I make it a point to understand the functionality (I plan on getting a CPA this year just for the heck of it).

But the scope of the project and the technological infrastructure determine how much influence I have on what we can do. But I always look out for the client (even if they disagree about what is "best" for them).

When all is said and done (which I prefer over the more consulatant-esque "at the end of the day") I always feel good about my advice to the client.
