Truthfully, I haven't run across a church yet that didn't do outrageous things that made my blood boil.
Last church I attended made excuses for behavior that would make Hugh Heffner blush.
And then straight faced stated that it was okay because the offended party wasn't a member of their particular belief system.

I was floored because basically they'd just said it was okay to do just about anything that would hurt your spouse or family and it'd be okay simply because they weren't members of that particular church.

Thankfully, I clamped my mouth shut and went outside before 'sploding.
This particular church likes to have people who dissent too much arrested.

I will never step foot through the doors of that particular church again, even if doing so would save my life.

Besides, in 'real life' I'm much more comfortable and at peace far away from people and out in the middle of nowhere in the woods.

Didn't they name the planet in Titan AE Bob?

You & my parents would get
into it, but I'll leave you alone...
after all we get along fine, no
sense in ruining it.

Er... how about that guy over there raping your mother to death? Can you harm him?

I'd prefer, "Harm none through direct action, but also try to not let others come to harm through your inaction. After all, some folks just need killin'."

If you find any good roots, cultivate them to create money trees.

Actually it is that the love of money is the root of all evil.

Which sounds like it might have been their problem.

Tried that once. That quarter is probably STILL buried somewhere in the Wisconsin North Woods...

"...one of the people I knew died, so I had no new stuff to 'guide' the character(s) based on them."

You should let the people you know, or think you know, be the cups into which you pour the new character's attributes.

With this method, the death of an acquaintance does not prevent the continuing development of a character based on that person. You shouldn't lift characters from real life, anyway, only characteristics.

My opinion, for what it's worth.

Oy. I just don't understand why snobs believe they
were given money so they could control the church.
That's what one couple believed in the last church
I went to. They'd only come back if they were given
control, they were (amazingly) told off.

When I moved here last year, I tried out several different churches with different denominations, plus several methodist churches, before I found this one that I was comfortable in. The pastor actually makes you feel good after a sermon and she really cares about the people there. And I haven't heard any contradictory statements from her - and I've been going there over 2 months now.

"Didn't they name the planet in Titan AE Bob?"

Beats me. Seems like some days every Tom, Dick, and Harry is named Bob.

It was more of the personality.
*chuckle*
The 'stick-your-tongue-out-at-life-just-because-you-can' attitude was perfect for the character.

But, lesson taken.
