Why Republicans disgust me
World Net Daily ^ | April 29, 2004 | Joseph Farah

Do you want to know why the Republican Party disgusts me?

Just take a look at the Pennsylvania Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Arlen Specter.

Specter is a disgusting old political hack who doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher of Bucks County. Yet, he has served four terms in the Senate.

He claims to be a Republican, but he supports few positions in the Republican platform. He is pro-abortion. He is pro-homosexual. He is a big spender. He is a big-government liberal by any standard you want to use.

Finally, this year, someone within the party decided to challenge Specter – a young congressman named Pat Toomey.

Toomey, 42, didn't have much of an organization. He didn't have a lot of money. But he did have grass-roots support from conservatives – people who actually believe in Republican Party principles, not just politicians who call themselves Republicans.

But the party establishment rushed to Specter's defense. Not only did President Bush weigh in to support the 74-year-old Specter, who is on the wrong side of nearly every issue under the sun, but so did the usually reliable junior senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.

Despite the money advantages, the endorsements and the party establishment firmly behind him, Specter managed to squeak out a victory of less than 20,000 votes in a contest where more than 1 million were cast.

The Republican leadership's way of thinking about this race focuses on Specter being in line for the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee next year. But that should be reason for opposing him, not supporting him.

In 1987, Specter opposed President Reagan's appointment of Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. He betrayed his own Republican president and a very good jurist. Why the Republican establishment would remain loyal to this unprincipled liberal is beyond me.

And I see that you're willing to live it all over again...I can live with whatever trash the trash of America elects, because I adapt and win regardless the political climate. It's lock-step, idiot GOPers that never have and never will really 'get out the vote', take for granted that Conservatives move the GOP to win, when the GOP does win, that are willing to suppress the conservative vote, and end up with Communists versus Socialists...a choice between Communism and Socialism really isn't a choice for America.

Stupid beotches like YOU and Bush I made that reality happen. Almost like handing a baton...

No, I campaigned and voted in 1992; you, on the other hand, seem rather proud of the fact that you gave us Bill Clinton because you put YOURSELF before the rest of the country.

I'm SO impressed with you!

Oh, I know; you proved that in 1992, didn't you?

Besides, it gives you four more years to come around and tell us all what a fine, outstanding patriot you are.

Live with it: it's all about YOU.

Prove it. Show where in the original document it says that all black people are to become slaves.

It's already proven. I'm simply following the logic demonstrated by going back to the original document with the first ten amendments, and throwing away the others.

When you want to "go back" to a time, you must take into account all of the history involved at the time to which you refer. Otherwise, the argument breaks down.

The original document did not once mention slavery, yet there was still slavery, was it not?

So in my view, to hell with "going back" to anything. Taking an honest account of those times, I find very little to be enthusiastic about. The blood, sweat, and tears given just so we can at least have the Constitution applied to us are far too precious to throw away. There ain't no going back.

[Umm, you haven't heard of the Constitution and Libertarian Parties?]

Of course I have.

Then what was the point of your comment about conservatives not forming their own party? I thought Kerry was the king of flip-flop.

Why aren't you on THEIR forum

Because I hate preaching to the choir.

Umm, I'll add 49% of the GOP primary vote in PA to my side's list...people that, in essence, told the GOP, Bush and Rove to shove it, voting for Toomey instead of the degenerate Sprectum.

So, who would you have voted for, Toomey or Sprectum? You're dodging.

I'm probably with you, I just wish someone had a chance besides Kerry and Bush.

Please don't take this personally, but my dad was fond of saying, "Wish in one hand, ____ in the other, and see which one fills up faster."

Your choice is Kerry or Bush.

John Kerry, in this current world climate, is dangerous to our country - he is a liar, he is indecisive, and he has already promised to subordinate the USA to the UN. Is punishing President Bush worth a Kerry presidency to you? I would think long and hard about that.

So you're here trolling for members?

There are conservatives in the GOP; just not the slash and burn types on this thread.

Amazing how certain ones appear on FR when they're sensing "blood in the water" for the GOP. The least bit of unrest in the GOP brings them to further stir things up.

Nobody said anything about going back to a "time", and you know it.

Maybe if we just got back to the original document and shed all of the amendments and modifications made after its initial ratification, we might be able to reclaim lost freedoms and former glories.

Repealing Ammendments 13, 14, 15, and 19. Which freed the slaves and made them citizens who were eligible to vote. The 19th gave the vote to women. I guess you overlooked those ammendments, right?

This post is a like trainwreck, as disgusting as it is, I cant look away.

I am a conservative, from conviction. I'm a registered Republican, from pure expediancy. And I'm proud of that, like a person who is proud of not being stupid.

The function of a political party is TO garner 51% of the vote. THIS IS ITS ONLY FUNCTION. ANY OTHER PROPOSED FUNCTION SIMPLY DISPLAYS AN IGNORANCE OF THE POLITICAL PROCESS.

The first step in politics is to get power. It is not to vote your conscience or any other such nonesense. You can vote your conscience all day long and it means nothing until you get control of the power structures.

A party is simply a coalition of people who have struck enough deals to get the power from the hands of the other people, who were too far away in ideology to strike said deals.

Then, when you get the power, you start striking more deals with those in your own party, to move legislation toward the things you believe in.

Specter is a Democrat and an idiot (but I repeat myself). But he is apparently willing to strike enough deals with Republicans to be useful to them. One of those deals is that we call him a Republican.

It's fine, if it works. Call him a mongoose if it gets something out of him. Apparently Bush thinks it works.

"Live with it: it's all about YOU."

Nice try howler. If I were a mushy conservative, I'd take the easy road like you and continue to stand by doing nothing as America continues to flounder with BS leadership from the GOP.

It's all about America ninny, but nice projection of your own selfish reasons for not putting America over your pathetic GOP.

Look at the PA threads from this week; I was asked that very question.

And I'll answer what I said then: I don't get involved in other state's politics because I don't want your sorry butt coming and telling me what we should be doing in NC; we already have billbears, we don't need yet another malcontent.

Nobody said anything about going back to a "time", and you know it.

Now you are not following. Going "back" to when the original document was created was a specific time, was it not?

"It's a political Party, not a League of Starry-eyed ideologues.

The failure of the "conservatives" within the GOP, is obtaining sufficient votes from the people who cast them to win elections..."

It's pseudo-Democratic RINO enablers like you who embrace the Benedict Arnolds of the GOP -- the Specters, Bloombergs, and Jeffords -- while spitting on the TRUE party platform.

Thanks for NOTHING.
