Why Republicans disgust me

Do you want to know why the Republican Party disgusts me?
Just take a look at the Pennsylvania Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Arlen Specter.
Specter is a disgusting old political hack who doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher of Bucks County. Yet, he has served four terms in the Senate.
He claims to be a Republican, but he supports few positions in the Republican platform. He is pro-abortion. He is pro-homosexual. He is a big spender. He is a big-government liberal by any standard you want to use.
Finally, this year, someone within the party decided to challenge Specter a young congressman named Pat Toomey.
Toomey, 42, didn't have much of an organization. He didn't have a lot of money. But he did have grass-roots support from conservatives people who actually believe in Republican Party principles, not just politicians who call themselves Republicans.
But the party establishment rushed to Specter's defense. Not only did President Bush weigh in to support the 74-year-old Specter, who is on the wrong side of nearly every issue under the sun, but so did the usually reliable junior senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.
Despite the money advantages, the endorsements and the party establishment firmly behind him, Specter managed to squeak out a victory of less than 20,000 votes in a contest where more than 1 million were cast.
The Republican leadership's way of thinking about this race focuses on Specter being in line for the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee next year. But that should be reason for opposing him, not supporting him.
In 1987, Specter opposed President Reagan's appointment of Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. He betrayed his own Republican president and a very good jurist. Why the Republican establishment would remain loyal to this unprincipled liberal is beyond me.

Why do you think LBJ was so good at giving people"the treatment"? Its tough to look the President in the eye after he calls you to the White House, after he saved your butt in you re-election, and tell him no. Its just the way it is.
Have you ever seen the documentary on how Reagan got his tax cut passed? Same type of thing.

"a DU troll, masking himself as a "principled Conservative", pushing a "progressive" agenda."
It's sad that you find it more gratifying to lie and demonize people than to debate them in an honest, mature manner.
I feel sorry for you.
To: Formoore04
You didn't even read my post, and you tell me to leave for writing something you didn't even read?
I asked a question, instead of answering you try to demonize me.
Yeah, that's right, you found me, I'm James Carville. You got me, now you won't have to worry about being asked any more hard questions.
Geez. I read your post. I even quoted it!
Like I said, you should be thrown out on your head for even attempting to defend Democrats on this particular forum.

"Since you've defended the Democrats twice in one thread, why not just say your a Democrat and stop pretending to be someone your not."
I haven't defended the Democrats anywhere in this thread. Nor have I tried to change the subject of conversation by lying about what someone else said--that's something you cannot say.
If you are not interested in a debate, if you'd prefer to lob insults and accusations at anyone who dares not to agree with you, then why are you on a debating forum? I just don't get it.

a DU troll, masking himself as a "principled Conservative", pushing a "progressive" agenda. And the conservative elite (I wont vote for Bush because he isnt conservative enough)are all egging him on. The funny thing about the conservative elite is, they will either vote for Bush, or not at all. Violating the basic tenets they claim to adhere to. Oh I know Ill get flames saying "We are voting third party on prinicple"
To which I reply-Bullsh*t..

(If President Bush loses the 2004 election because of his stand on abortion, he is still the winner.)
To: Luis Gonzalez
It's a political Party, not a League of Starry-eyed ideologues. There is a place between standing for nothing and being a starry-eyed ideologue, no?
I could forgive Arlen SPECTRE for his pork-barrel spending. I could forgive Arlen SPECTRE for his support of the budget-busting perscription drug benefit. I could forgive Arlen SPECTRE for not backing a federal DOM ammendment.
If he demonstrated he had a gradual approach to ending abortion, I could forgive Arlen SPECTRE for not backing some pro-life legislation.
But more than principle is at stake in judiciary appointments, and more than principle is at stake in the character of the President of the United States. So I can not forgive Arlen SPECTRE for voting against impeachment of Bill Clinton, or for his attacks on Judge Bork. Those aren't just issues of policy that can be corrected later. Those are issues which define our Republic. If our Presidents can not be held to a high standard of character, or if our judiciary continues to make laws that are the proper pervue of the legislative branch, we will cease to be.
Shalom.

The day Kerry takes office would be a sad day for this country. IF that happens, people will want to start placing blame.
Do you suppose Bush will accept any blame? Will you and others here on FR accept any blame for unloading vitriol on the backs of the best allies you have? You have six months in which to pound conservatives into the mud, however, will it still be all their fault????

I wasn't defending Democrats, and someone needs to explain to you, that you don't win arguments by trying to railroad people who disagree with you out, with insults and accusations of being a troll.
You can't intellectually deny anything I've written, so I must be a witch! I must be troll!
Sad.
To: philosofy123
But the corrupt politicians, especially on the Republican side kept criticizing this reform, and now it is dead. Except among people like Pat Toomey, who self-imposed a limit of 3 terms in the House, and kept his promise.
Shalom.

Yes, you did indeed defend them by playing the relativistic game. Like I said, wrong forum for that. And, yes, I do believe that you are a retread. In other words, you were banned, but now have returned under a different handle. People who have been here for a while can recognize this, and you give all of the signs of being one.
You can't intellectually deny anything I've written, so I must be a witch! I must be troll!
I already did that. Yes, you must be a troll at best or a retread at the worst.
Sad.
Don't be so hard on yourself.

So what power will Bush have over him? None.So lets just say Specter has no honor at all and is void of anything but getting his diabolical agenda through the Senate (he certainly isnt Jim Jeffords). So what? unless he jumps to the Dem side the majority stays on the R. side. The commitees all stay on the R. side. Who cares?

Adopted at St. Louis, June 16, 1896.
1896 you say...... May help if you can get to the 2000s are somewhere close. Buggy whips are gone, so is the Pony Express, paddle wheelers are for show, we've been to the moon and planted a flag even if Shelia Jack thinks it was Mars....
Things may not be like in 1896 but then I'm not sure I want to go back to that area either, may you and Joe do... Your mileage may vary.

I think the 1896 Republican Platform calls for a buggy whip subsidy. Down with those pesky automobiles. It is as relevant today as Jim Crow.
