Why Republicans disgust me

Do you want to know why the Republican Party disgusts me?
Just take a look at the Pennsylvania Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Arlen Specter.
Specter is a disgusting old political hack who doesn't deserve to be dogcatcher of Bucks County. Yet, he has served four terms in the Senate.
He claims to be a Republican, but he supports few positions in the Republican platform. He is pro-abortion. He is pro-homosexual. He is a big spender. He is a big-government liberal by any standard you want to use.
Finally, this year, someone within the party decided to challenge Specter a young congressman named Pat Toomey.
Toomey, 42, didn't have much of an organization. He didn't have a lot of money. But he did have grass-roots support from conservatives people who actually believe in Republican Party principles, not just politicians who call themselves Republicans.
But the party establishment rushed to Specter's defense. Not only did President Bush weigh in to support the 74-year-old Specter, who is on the wrong side of nearly every issue under the sun, but so did the usually reliable junior senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.
Despite the money advantages, the endorsements and the party establishment firmly behind him, Specter managed to squeak out a victory of less than 20,000 votes in a contest where more than 1 million were cast.
The Republican leadership's way of thinking about this race focuses on Specter being in line for the chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee next year. But that should be reason for opposing him, not supporting him.
In 1987, Specter opposed President Reagan's appointment of Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court. He betrayed his own Republican president and a very good jurist. Why the Republican establishment would remain loyal to this unprincipled liberal is beyond me.

"It is not what Spector owes Bush, it is about what the next Incumbent fighting for his life in a tough primary over the next 5 years, will Owe Bush."
Which will be?
Anyway, is that what you want the Republican Party to become, a cult of personality?

Specter is gonna owe Bush on any tight issue that comes up where Specter may want to waffle. If Bush doesn't come out in support of Specter he may have lost. Thats how this works. Do you think Specter doesn't know he is gonna owe Bush a few votes down the line. Thats how the President twists arms.

I remember the same mentality expressed by the party "elite" back in '76 when Reagan challenged Ford. And Reagan wholeheartedly endorsed Ford in 76 after the primaries.
Seems that Toomey is following the gracious lead of Reagan, instead of the red meat advice of the self-proclaimed "real conservatives".

"...because you do not give a rats ass about what we need to do in this country." You have absolutley no idea what the hell your talking about.
I've been involved in the "patriot movement" for over 15 years. I don't stand around with blinders on waving my made in China flag in the wind and waiting for some politcian to do the right thing.
I love my country and want to help it back onto the correct path.
I've met so many republicrats that sit in front of the boob tube watching the BIG game or NASCAR or some other sporting event instead of getting involved in correcting the wrongs in our country.
They'll send in their $10-? to their polictical parties and sit back like they've actually accomplished something. The same thing with many hunt / gun clubs. Send in their currency to the NRA, wear their NRA hat and then do nothing.

Interesting! It was the voters who gave the election to Spector, and it is the voters that are responsible. The people are the government and you want to payback "Bush". Didn't you hear? 51% of Penn's registered republican voters are effin nuts. I mean, what do they know? It is the handful of political geniuses on this board that are the true soothsayers. Oh yeah, and it's all Bush's fault./s

Wait and see. He is still running for the Senate. He may not fall into lockstep, but on an important issue like Supreme Court he will, or anything else the Prez thinks is very important.

The Constitution Party? The Constitution Party, you say?
Well, check out a few of the articles by Constitution Party stalwart Mark Dankof.
He writes for al-jazeerah
From his bio: he entered the United States Senate race in Delaware in 2000 as the nominated candidate of the Constitution Party
He even Photoshops his teeth:
But at least he isn't a Libertarian who turns his skin blue.

Politics, is by definition, a Cult of Personality, and by extension the art of compromise.
Look, going forward, it is fair to see, which RINO incumbents will be facing tough challenges, and in advance of that, ground will ahve to be given to the WH in exchange for support, that means key votes on crucial issues, the fact that Toomey almost ate Arleens lunch, gives Bush serious coin in that realm for the next 5 years.

Bork is not a supporter of the RKBA or the Second Amendment.

There ya go, stereotyping Republicans. You sound like an elitist Northeastern Liberal when you plant labels on average Americans like that.

Sadly your comment will not be understood by the majority on this thread.
The mass of democrat and republican voters honestly believe that they are voting for or against a distinct and separate entity. Partisan followers of both parties are indeed the sheep and they are readily discernible here.

"Specter is gonna owe Bush on any tight issue that comes up where Specter may want to waffle."
How? Specter doesn't have to do squat for Bush, Bush can't impeach him.
"If Bush doesn't come out in support of Specter he may have lost. Thats how this works. Do you think Specter doesn't know he is gonna owe Bush a few votes down the line. Thats how the President twists arms."
True, but how is Bush going to call in the favor? This is will be Specter's last term. There's nothing Bush can do to him once he wins re-election in November.

Democrats do not have the best interests of this nation and its citizens in mind. They would weaken it, impoverish it and destroy its sovereignty if they could. They champion appeasement, socialism, radical social engineering and radical environmentalism.
The Democrats, as their party stands now, ARE the enemy.
On the other hand, if the Democrats were mostly like this Zell Miller ('cause Senator Miller ain't much like Governor Miller...), I might be one.

It must.

Anyway, is that what you want the Republican Party to become, a cult of personality?Do you think the Senate is a bunch of principled men voting their concience? The House maybe, but not the Senate. Thats how it has always worked and the Prez. has a lot of influence on incubents who want to be reelected. Thats how the Prez. gets his bills passed.
