CRAWFORD, Tex., Jan. 3 -- President Bush will propose protections for the Social Security taxes paid by the workers who would come into the country under massive changes to immigration laws he plans to announce on Wednesday, Republican officials said Saturday.
Bush's plan would make it possible for such workers from Mexico and perhaps other countries to collect retirement benefits without being penalized by their home countries for the years they spent working in the United States, the officials said.
Officials began releasing details of Bush's plan shortly before Christmas and provided new details over the weekend. The officials said Bush's plan will contain a new system to help workers who want to enter from Mexico or other countries if they have jobs waiting for them. It also includes a mechanism for some undocumented residents to continue working in the United States and get on a path to legal status.

Frank Sharry, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, an immigrant advocacy group, said he fears the Social Security plan could be used as an incentive for workers to go home instead of settling in the United States, which could create what he called "a permanent class of temporary workers with no political power." Sounds good to me. If this is really all about people from a poor country who want to work their butts off for a decent wage then let it be so. They have political power in the countries they come from and their welcome to excercise it there.

Illegal migrants crossing our open southern border. You're right it doesn't look so clear at that size. Will have to find something clearer, maybe a photo of a grocery store sign reading "Aceptamos Estampillas y WIC"

RE: The CA recall
Bustamante got slightly less than 60% of the Latino vote.
Schwarzenegger got about 30 percent of the Latino vote.
That is remarkably similar to the 1994 Prop 187 vote. About 30 percent of Americans of Latino ethnicity voted for Prop 187. In total about 60 percent of all voters voted for Prop 187.
The Republicans IMO insult Americans of Latino ethnicity by running from pro-American positions and instead support the corrupt government of Mexico hoping to attract the votes of Americans of Latino ethnicity. Go figure.

RE: "Where in the Washington Post article does it say anything about amnesty or citizenship?"
It's any form of legalization that matters.
SHOULD WE LEGALIZE ILLEGAL ALIENS?
10,836,390 total votes since 12/10/03. 92 percent say No. You cannot vote more than once in this poll. It's on Michael Savage's website. michaelsavage.com

There should be a general reply option on this website, I am not necessarily replying to #1.
About a year ago, I started posting my opposition to GWB's policies towards illegal immigrants, and stated that I would not support his re-election.
I was continually scarified by Cool-Aid drinking Republicans. I put up with multiple ad hominem attacks.
Look folks, we stop flights from coming into our country yet we leave a border pourous. Anyone can smuggle whatever nasty into our country through the Southwest.
And GWB does not have the courage to stop it.
Any President who will not address our security is not going to get my vote; I do not care who the alternative is.
GWB is a coward when it comes to dealing with our under belly - the Mexican border.
Glad to see there are others who agree.

MJ we wouldn't do that because of one newspaper, one politician, it is the opposite, very few journalists cover the 'truth' but it is there. A handful of politicans genuinely care about this issue and that is evident seeing thei websites. But the nultitude of them don't care and lie. Believe me this is months, even years of a myriad of source's that we base this.

Why should we have to pay for his cheap labor?
And get paid cheap wages! Being a 'union' carpneter doesn't mean squat any longer. Matter of fact many sites do not wan to hire them and the deserved hourly pay. The only place hubby will get constant work now, is honestly in CA building housing for illegals!

Yes polls show 70% of Americans find this a hot button issue but our President and cabinet truly, as known, care a fig for polls
