WOW... a thread devoted to an apology??? You certainly have FRespect. I've visited some of those threads, but not really participated in them.

Hey, NAL! Welcome back. Long time, no see! I remember the good old days in North Texas, standing outside watching Clinton's goons bus in supporters while FReepers showed up in their own cars carrying home made signs. My article, "Rights? What Rights?" about your trip (with Basil and others) to east Texas is still carried on several websites and discussed!

You were my introduction to FR, and I'll never forget you! I was simply "TheWriter" back then, but two kids and some major health complications kept me away from FR for a while. Looks like we are both "coming home."

Don't expect too many apologies from the Terri-ites.
I still don't know what to think about the case, but I can say that those threads were characterized
by a rampant hysteria seldom equaled here.
Anyone who dared even question the Save-Terri position was treated as if he were Dr Kevorkian posting from his prison cell.

I've been reading those Schiavo threads and I hate to tell you, but you come off as one detestable individual. Glad you finally realized what you were doing, most people don't.

Your somewht tortuous apology here is accepted by me, can't speak for the posters you actually directed your posts to. I had put you on my internal "ignore him, he's an jerk" list, but will pull you off and put you on probation...... for now.

The only thing that really bothered me was your continuous sarcasm. It seemed out of place. I think that's a lot of what set people off.

Anyway, apology accepted. Just don't do it again, LOL. ;-)

Good morning, NAL, just wanted to say I enjoyed our reasoned discussion of yesterday and look forward to more of the same in the future. Unless, of course, you return to lurking. :)

Hi Nal. I didn't even know you had come back to FR. I hope you are enjoying your move to sunny Florida.

Take care kitten.

Your first post on the subject:
How many pet owners do you know that try to sustain thier pets via feeding tubes, when their poor health has left them unable to move and to eat?

The term "putting it out of its misery" when referring to an animal is generally taken sadly, but positively - as the proper thing to do. It seems that many here take great delight in trying to sustain Terri Schiavo's misery.

My reply to that post:
How do you know she's in misery? For that matter who isn't? She is said to be a Catholic. If she has awareness she can spend her time in prayer. If she were a Buddhist she could still do practice. She seems to enjoy visits from her mother.

Animals can't pray or ever have one thought of enlightenment or salvation even when they are healthy. When they are completely immobilized from injury or sickness they have nothing left but fear. That is not true of the human mind.

Your reply to that:
None of your responses to my comment have convinced me that Terri Schiavo is not in misery, and has she apparently been so for many, many years. And, none of you have convinced me that you do not delight in trying to sustain her misery.

Further, as is typical of many who comment here on this matter, you have mostly decided to attribute statements and thoughts to me which I have not made nor had. To say nothing of your propensity to label and name call without basis.

I see you all as the opposite of the 'kind souls' that you apparently think that you are.

My second response to you:
Well isn't that special? You have stated again that you know she is in misery. I ask you again 'how do you know'? As for name calling show me where I called you a name. Here's something more for you to think about; I don't have any need to convince you of what my motives are. They are clear from my posts as are yours.

Your next post to me:
TE: You have stated again that you know she is in misery

I didn't state that I "knew" anything of the sort. I said she was "apparently" in misery. It is you and most of the others comment here that assert that she is not in a non-feeling state. You can't have it both ways. And you shouldn't attribute your assumptions to me.

To paraphrase what you said yourself on this thread 'if I am insulted I will give it right back.' No one gives it back like I do. ;) But I think the above shows that I did exercise restraint. If I did indeed insult you after those exchanges I think we can all see why.

'Nuff said?

I must give you a lot of credit for the public apology! As far as I can remember, we did not personally clash on the issue of Terri Schiavo. (I just couldn't figure why you were posting on the Terri threads!)

An emotional response is not unusual when it's a matter of life or state-sanctioned death. To my way of thinking, if one didn't have an emotional response to a woman being starved to death...well, that would be downright cold-hearted (or, to put it in your terms, too analytical).

There are far too many valid, relevant, and really disturbing questions about this case. I think asking those questions and attempting to sort them out before playing God and snuffing out a life IS a logical position to take.

If you were trying to distract us from the subject of saving Terri's life, you've done an excellent job. Kudos to you on initiating a petty school-yard fight about crap that doesn't matter. I would try the whole 'fake apology' thing, if I were an upstanding person.

You apoligize by saying: "I have been rude to various other posters..."

Then take back the apology by saying immediately afterward: "...though just when responding to posts that were insulting and rude to me," thereby excusing your behavior.

You admit: "I realized that I might have at times been rude to someone who had not initiated that rudeness with me."

You then go on to list all the various justifications for your behavior, as though others are at fault for what you have chosen to do. As you say, "In any case, that is my excuse."

You then close with the admission that you are going to continue in the behavior for which you are supposedly apologizing, and doing so for all the same justifications and equivocations you have already listed - i.e., it is everyone else's fault that you are rude: "Finally a warning to others: For so long as you continue to be rude to me, I will likely respond in kind. And, if you continue repeated the same illogical questions over and over, I will likely become increasingly 'testy' in my responses to you."

What kind of apology is that?

If you are truly sorry for what you have done, take responsibility for it - without excuse or justification, repent of it wholeheartedly and sincerely, and change your ways.
