(CNN) -- A 15-year-old Yemeni girl was burned to death by her father for "communicating with her fiance," according to Yemen's Interior Ministry. The father, a 35-year-old man, was arrested Tuesday in a village in Taiz Province. The statement did not clarify when the girl was killed. The case, which activists are calling an honor crime, is once again highlighting the plight of young girls in Yemen, where child marriages and honor killings still happen. According to Human Rights Watch, more than half of all females in Yemen are married off before the age of 18.

A Long Island man was arrested Friday after investigators say he attempted to travel to Yemen to join al Qaeda and conspired with the terror group from the United States, according to an indictment from the U.S. Department of Justice. Gunmen have shot dead a German employed as a bodyguard at his country's embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The man was killed by attackers in an apparent unsuccessful kidnap attempt on the German ambassador. Germany’s ambassador to Yemen appeared to have escaped a kidnapping attempt in the capital, Sanaa, on Sunday in which a bodyguard was killed. The pan-Arab news channel al-Arabiya reported that the guard had been killed as the attackers tried to kidnap the German ambassador, Carola Müller-Holtkemper.

At least 30 people were killed when suspected militants launched simultaneous attacks on military targets in southern Yemen, sources say. Two car bombs reportedly exploded at a camp in Shabwa province, killing around 20 soldiers and wounding many others.
