This is from the evening news broadcast tonight. NBC 4 DC News reported that a man followed the daughters' motorcade into the White House grounds around 5:00pm today. The Secret Service put the White House on lockdown. They arrested the guy, checked for explosives, finding none, and lifted the lockdown. This has not been posted online yet.

Flooded rail lines. Bigger, more frequent droughts. A rash of wildfires. Those are some of the alarming predictions in a White House climate change report released Tuesday, part of President Barack Obama's broader second-term effort to help the nation prepare for the effects of higher temperatures, rising sea levels and more erratic weather. "Climate change, once considered an issue for a distant future, has moved firmly into the present," the National Climate Assessment says, adding that the evidence of man-made climate change "continues to strengthen" and that "impacts are increasing across the country." "Americans are noticing changes all around them,"...

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today indicated the White House will refuse to cooperate with a new House committee tasked with investigating Benghazi. “We have always cooperated with legitimate oversight,” Carney said this afternoon during the daily White House briefing. Asked whether the panel qualified as “legitimate,” he said: “I think if you look at what even some Republicans have said, it certainly casts doubt on the legitimacy of an effort that is so partisan in nature.” “You know, at some point, you just have to assume that Republicans will continue this because it feeds a political objective of...

The botched health care site, Malaysian Airlines and midterm elections were all fair game Saturday at the 100th annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner..... .....“Just a tip for you,” Mr. Obama said in reference to Mr. Bundy’s comments about “the negro.” “Don’t start your sentence that way.” He also pointed out that Republicans were even beginning to care more about other politicians. “The House of Representatives is giving John Boehner a harder time than they’re giving me,” he said, the joke getting one of the loudest laughs. “Which means orange really is the new black.”...

Everyone missed what is now, in hindsight, a crystal clear signal that the White House knew that the buffalo chips were about to hit the fan; and that they are very worried. On April 21, the White House announced that Neil Eggleston would be the new counsel to the president. It didn't get much notice, but in light of recent events, it's a really big deal.

They may govern the free world's leading nation and regulate the globe's biggest economy, but when it comes to celebrities, Washingtonians are as starstruck as folks from Des Moines. That's why the annual White House Correspondents' dinner has assumed an outsized importance on the capitol social calendar and one of the reasons many locals are feeling let down by this year's dearth of A-list actors and film figures. Apart from Robert De Niro, who is promoting a documentary on his artist father, there will only be a smattering of high-wattage names at Saturday night's edition of the annual event. A...

In January, the Obama administration put together a "working group" to analyze how huge swaths of Americans' data are being gathered and stored and what sort of privacy issues need to be addressed. The group's report was just released this week. Before you ask: No, it's not about the National Security Agency (NSA) sweeping up huge amounts of metadata from phone and online communications by Americans, even though that’s the big data conversation many Americans want to have right now. Such data gathering is vaguely mentioned in the full report, but primarily the 85-page study (pdf) is about consumer privacy...

Metro officers deal with large crowds all the time, but nothing like this. The crowd included former military men and ex-cops, people with various motives, their fingers poised just above the triggers of powerful weapons. With so much firepower in so many hands, a small incident could have set off a bloodbath and left nearly two dozen officers dead. Assist. Sheriff Joe Lombardo:"We were outgunned, outmanned and there would not have been a good result from it." I-Team reporter George Knapp: "A lot of scenarios could have played out that would have left a lot of dead officers." Assist. Sheriff...

The Obama administration has no shred of integrity left concerning the Benghazi scandal. Caught in the act with the "loaded gun," those in the administration are telling us it is a toy pistol, but no honest observer can possibly believe them anymore. It took a lawsuit to force the White House to release emails that reveal just how deliberate and fraudulent the plan was to deceive the press and the American public about the cause of the attack on our consulate in Libya. The incident and a nearby attack a few hours later, in which four Americans were killed, occurred...

In oday's press briefing, Jay Carney had his feet held to the fire several times over Benghazi. Mark Knoller asked what should have been a simple question: Have you been forthcoming? Jay Carney's answer was was immediately comical. KNOLLER: Do you believe the White House has been as open and forthcoming as it can be on this issue? CARNEY: I really don't know how to answer that. Well, there's a surprise. Carney went on to list a variety of disclosures or efforts that the Administration has undertaken, and then hilariously said they've done so because "they were being mischaracterized," and...

Bill O’Reilly said there’s no question that the White House misrepresented the Sept. 11, 2012, terror attack in Benghazi. Five days after the attack, then-Ambassador Susan Rice told the world that the attack was not pre-planned and was a spontaneous reaction to a YouTube video. “That was not true, that was not even close to being true,” O’Reilly said. According to a White House memo obtained by Judicial Watch, Ben Rhodes sent an email to prep Rice about the attack, listing the following two goals:

White House Directed Incorrect Benghazi Narrative by Sharyl Attkisson April 29, 2014 Newly-released documents reveal direct White House involvement in steering the public narrative about the September 11, 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, toward that of a spontaneous protest that never happened. One of the operative documents, which the government had withheld from Congress and reporters for a year and a half, is an internal September 14, 2012 email to White House press officials from Ben Rhodes, President Obama’s Assistant and Deputy National Security Advisor. (Disclosure: Ben Rhodes is the brother of David Rhodes, the President of CBS News,...

Newly released emails on the Benghazi terror attack suggest a senior White House aide played a central role in preparing former U.N. ambassador Susan Rice for her controversial Sunday show appearances -- where she wrongly blamed protests over an Internet video. More than 100 pages of documents were released to the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit. Among them was a Sept. 14, 2012, email from Ben Rhodes, an assistant to the president and deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The Rhodes email, with the subject line: "RE: PREP Call with...

Some people are saying that this time, PETA’s lost all credibility. They’ve crossed the line. I’d ask when PETA ever had any credibility? It is not possible to take them seriously. They have to pretend that they’re outraged by animal abuse so that they can raise lots of money from rich and flaky Hollywood liberals. Their latest attack is on the White House for using real eggs in their Easter egg hunt:

City Councilwoman Beth Mason met with current and former White House officials last week to talk transportation and gun control — and how these issues affect Hoboken. Mason attended a fundraiser on Wednesday night for Americans for Responsible Solutions, a gun-control political action committee started by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords. Former President Bill Clinton was a guest speaker at the event. In past years, the councilwoman has been vocal about her support for gun ownership reform. Last year, she helped collect signatures for the Daily News’ petition to ban assault weapons in New York. She also supported Hoboken’s symbolic resolution...
  • President Obama picks W. Neil Eggleston as new White House counsel [investigation probe?]

    04/26/2014 7:41:03 AM PDT · by DBCJR · 4 replies
Eggleston served as an associate counsel in Bill Clinton’s White House during the Whitewater hearings, after serving earlier as a deputy chief counsel of the congressional committee that investigated Iran-Contra. After leaving the White House, he represented Clinton in a pair of high-profile court battles over executive privilege. ... In the 1990s, the Clinton White House hired Eggleston to defend executive branch secrecy in two independent counsel investigations: Donald Smaltz’s probe of Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy and Ken Starr’s probe of Whitewater — an inquiry that evolved into an examination of whether Clinton lied under oath about his relationship with...

The White House is pushing back against a Rolling Stone magazine story that cites two "high-level" Obama administration sources saying President Obama intends to reject the Keystone XL pipeline. "Nobody who knows POTUS' thinking on Keystone is talking and nobody who is talking knows," White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said on Twitter Wednesday evening. In the Rolling Stone story published online Wednesday, veteran climate writer Jeff Goodell writes that the unnamed administration sources told him Obama has "all but decided to deny the permit for the pipeline," although the piece notes "no final decision has been made." Later, the story...

Key members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform expressed outrage at revelations made in newly released emails showing ex-IRS official Lois Lerner coordinating with the Department of Justice on prosecuting nonprofit groups. One committee member said the emails prove why the IRS is “scared to give up the rest of Lois Lerner’s emails.” IRS commissioner John Koskinen was recently threatened with contempt for stonewalling the committee’s investigation. Koskinen claimed in a hearing that it could take years to provide the documents requested by Oversight. “The release of new documents underscores the political nature of IRS Tea Party...
