Archaeologists found what they believe to be an installation used for the distillation process at Lindores Abbey in Fife. The first ever written record of Scotch whisky distillation took place in the abbey in 1494, according to the exchequer rolls of King James IV.

The remainder of the massive structure collapsed at the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Nelson County Emergency Management spokesman Milt Spalding said. No injuries were reported in either collapse, he said. "It is a mountain of bourbon barrels," he said Wednesday.Environmental and wildlife officials were on the scene to determine if any whiskey spilled into a nearby waterway, he said. The distillery owner Sazerac,...

Castoreum is a yellowish, strong-smelling secretion that comes from the castor sacs found near the base of a beaver’s tail. It’s an FDA-approved food additive, and hey, you can now get whiskey that’s flavored with the stuff. That knowledge comes courtesy of this piece from Food & Wine’s Mike Pomranz, which spotlights a nice little beaver musk whiskey made by Tamworth Distilling of New Hampshire. Fear not, castoreum is an FDA-approved food additive. That’s actually how this spirit came about. Tamworth’s team was looking to develop a new spirit, and in hopes of securing a speedy all-clear from the Alcohol...

A federal inmate was caught sneaking back into a Beaumont prison with a duffle bag full of snacks, fruit, liquor and tobacco Thursday. The U.S. Marshals and Jefferson County Sheriff’s office were acting on a tip when they set up a surveillance operation on private property near the prison. Officers watched as a vehicle drove onto the land and dropped off a large duffle bag. Then, about two hours later, they watched an inmate from The Federal Correctional Complex escaped from the prison and grabbed the duffle. The deputies and marshals descended on the inmate and confiscated the bag. Inside...

Why is Scotch whisky so intimidating? There's something about this spirit — which is really nothing more than malt or grain-based whisky made in Scotland — that's got an intimidating rep. Well, once you know how to drink Scotch — and learn that it's not so scary after all — you'll be that cool, breezy bar-goer sipping Scotch like it's no biggie. First, the basics: all Scotch whisky has to meet certain legal standards to be granted it's name. Chiefly, it must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years. Scotch comes in two forms, single malts (all...

MIDDLETOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's the newest take on the bourbon experience: luxury ice. The chilly business venture is barely a year old, but several big name distillers are already taking notice. It's Kentucky's proudest beverage. The flavor, the aroma and the way we enjoy our bourbon is a science. That's why the folks at Kentucky Straight Ice say what we put into the glass with it should be too. "You're getting ice that melts three to four times slower than your standard ice cube," says Rich Finck, President of Kentucky Straight Ice. This allows consumers to enjoy bourbon longer...

Cleveland Whiskey in Ohio, founder and CEO Tom Lix is a firm believer that technology can accomplish in days what a barrel stashed underground would take a half-decade. Mr. Lix pours his mashes into a stainless steel vat along with chopped up pieces of barrel so that the wood can give the whiskey its traditional brown color. And in days, he emphasizes, many of Cleveland Whiskey’s products are ready for tasting and selling. Some, he says, even in 24 hours. Mr. Lix produced for me his Black Reserve, whose quality of taste is on par with Knob Creek. Its complexity...

"There is a huge demand now for a store, for different kind of products from different locations and climates."In n an unassuming building in the heart of hip and gritty south Tel Aviv, a young distillery is hours away from auctioning off a batch of what it calls the first Israeli-made single malt whiskey. And of course it's kosher. The distillery is unloading its first "experimental series" of the spirit, aged only three years, by offering 100 bottles in an online auction and another 291 bottles are being sold locally.

Leading up to the election, Republic Restoratives owners Pia Carusone and Rachel Gardner wanted to create a product that would celebrate who they thought would be the first female president. Plus, it seemed fitting: Hillary Clinton has been known to throw back the occasional whiskey. So, they came up with the idea for Rodham Rye, which would launch around the inauguration. No need to tell you what happened next. Carusone, who previously worked for congresswoman Gabby Giffords, was in Arizona campaigning for Clinton right up to election night. The next day, she and Gardner agreed to put the rye...

Who invented whisky, the Scots or the Irish, is a debate as old as time, but one thing is for sure, the old Bushmills distillery in Northern Ireland is the world’s oldest official whiskey distillery, going back to 1603. The word whiskey itself is derived from the Gaelic word uisce (or uisge in Scotland), meaning “water”. Simply put, Irish whiskey is whiskey that is distilled and aged in Ireland, regardless of whether it’s the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. It is distilled from a yeast-fermented mash of cereal grains (ranging from malted barley, corn, wheat, rye and so on),...

Hillary Clinton Takes Natural Desiccated Thyroid Posted on August 3, 2015 A letter was released by Hillary Clinton's doctor, Lisa Bardack, MD, disclosing among other things, Hillary is taking natural desiccated thyroid pills for hypothyroidism, and she has a Calcium Score of zero. She also takes vitamin B12. Dr Lisa Bardack declared Hillary "fit to serve as president." Perhaps Dr Lisa Bardack prescribes natural thyroid for Hillary Clinton because it is a better thyroid medication. And perhaps Dr Lisa Barack prescribes natural thyroid for Hillary Clinton in spite of the opposition of the Endocrine Society Position_Statement which says natural desiccated...
