Walmart (WMT) is closing hundreds of Sam's Club stores nationwide, according to numerous media reports. Jessica Buckner, an audit team lead at a Sam's Club location in Anchorage, told local TV station KTVA that all Alaska stores are closing as part of a larger downsizing across the U.S. "From what I heard, there's over 260 stores that have been closed down," she said. The wholesale clubs' official closure date is Jan. 26, Buckner said. The closures also affect stores in New Jersey, upstate New York, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. In some locations, per social...

Sam’s Club, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc, closed a series of stores following a review, the membership-only store chain said in a tweet on Thursday. The tweet came after a series of reports from local news outlets said some Sam's Club stores were closed abruptly on Thursday, with employees learning of the move as they arrived for work.

Walmart is suddenly closing several Sam's Club stores across the US. Closures were reported by local media in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Arizona, Alaska, and elsewhere. In some cases, employees were not informed of the closures prior to showing up to work on Thursday. Instead, they learned that their store would be closing when they found the store's doors locked and a notice announcing the closure, according to reports. Walmart and Sam's Club did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Sam's Club offered an explanation on Twitter, however, saying, "After a thorough review of our existing...

Walmart's employees will reap the benefits of the recent tax law changes, as the company raises its starting wage and distributes bonuses to eligible workers. The big-box retailer announced Thursday it will be increasing its starting wage rate for hourly employees in the U.S. to $11, and expand maternity and parental leave benefits. The retailer also will pay a one-time cash bonus to eligible employees of as much as $1,000. Currently, Walmart's starting wage is $9 until workers complete a training program. Then, they receive $10.
  • Open Carry Firearm Stolen In North Carolina Walmart

There’s a lot of debate that takes place around the idea of open carry. Many argue that open carry is tactically stupid as it makes it clear to any potential bad guy who to take out first during a robbery. Others counter with arguments about how open carry initiates conversations about the Second Amendment and our right to keep and bear arms. Both are good points, but for one open carrier in Fayetteville, NC, open carry isn’t such a grand thing these days. An incident involving a stolen gun caused a commotion at Walmart on Skibo Road on Thursday afternoon....

(Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N) was sued on Wednesday by a transgender woman who said she was wrongfully fired after complaining about harassment at the Sam’s Club warehouse store in North Carolina where she had worked for 11 years. Charlene Bost, 46, said co-workers at the Kannapolis store where she had been a member service supervisor called her “sir,” “that thing with an attitude” and “shim,” a slur combining “she” and “him.” She also said her male boss subjected her to unwanted physical advances and referred to her as “it.”

The .22 LR bubble is over. With the Trump Presidency, gun owners are no longer worried that ammunition might be hard to find in the indefinite future. I visited the WalMart in Northern Dallas on the corner of Marsh Lane  and Frankford Rd. It has had more ammunition available, at lower prices, than the others I have visited in Arizona and Texas. As seen in the photo, take on December 20, 2017, Federal bulk packs of 550 rounds of 36 grain high velocity .22 Long Rifle cartridges were priced at $19.94.  According to my calculator 1994/550 is 3.62 cents...

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A Salvation Army bell ringer was attacked in front of Walmart for simply spreading holiday cheer. We’ve all heard it; the jingle that means it’s nearly Christmas and ringing in sounds of hope for donations. But not everyone is in the giving spirit. “I greet everybody, 'Merry Christmas,'” said Rev. Jamie Wolfe, Sr. Sadly, those two simple words got this bell ringer knocked out. “He haymakered me, hit me, got me down on the ground and we started wrestling, at that point I’m fighting for my life,” Wolfe Sr. said. The man wasn’t after the kettle money,...
  • Walmart is planning a store without cashiers

Walmart's NYC-based innovation center is experimenting with a cashier-less store concept called Project Kepler, which "aims to reimagine the in-store shopping experience with the help of technologies like computer vision," Recode reports. Project Kepler is in part aimed at creating a store that would feature no checkout lines or cashiers, but use computer vision to detect which products customers leave the store with and then charge their accounts accordingly. Why it matters: Amazon is also experimenting without cashiers, while roughly 3.5 million Americans operate cash registers for a living. Recode also reports that Walmart's new start-up subsidiary, called Code 8,...

Would you rather own 100% of Wal-Mart or every Bitcoin in existence?  At one point such a question would have been completely absurd, but now things have changed.  As I write this article, Wal-Mart has a market cap of 287.68 billion dollars.  Wal-Mart is the king of the retail industry in America, and nobody else is even close.  Bitcoin, on the other hand, is an entirely digital creation that did not even exist until 2009.  No government or central bank in the entire world recognizes it as a legitimate currency, and there are very, very few retail establishments that are...

Deep in the heart of Trump country, the Salvation Army’s ubiquitous red kettle is turning into a cauldron of controversy for Sen. George Logan. An Ansonia Republican, Logan’s volunteer work as a bell-ringer outside a Walmart in Naugatuck for the Salvation Army, which is a Christian charity, has drawn opposition from a secularist group. The Freedom From Religion Foundation called on Logan to keep up the separation between church and state. The group wrote to him Tuesday to voice its objections to him ringing the bell outside the big box store twice this week, including an appearance scheduled for Saturday...

Walmart and a book distributor distanced themselves from Tavis Smiley on Thursday after PBS said an investigation found “troubling allegations” of sexual misconduct by the radio and TV host. The moves came a day after PBS said it was suspending Smiley following an independent investigation by a law firm. PBS said the firm uncovered “multiple, credible allegations of conduct that is inconsistent with the values and standards of PBS.” His show’s page at PBS was scrubbed on Thursday. Smiley has denied any wrongdoing. Walmart, which had been a sponsor of Smiley’s talk show and an upcoming touring theatrical show, cut...

‘Antifa’ clothing is no longer available on Walmart’s website as of Saturday afternoon. The clothing’s third-party manufacturer, TEE Bangers LLC, also appears to have pulled the line promoting the far-leftist group whose activities were “formally classified” by the Obama Administration “as domestic terrorist violence.” As recently as Saturday morning, Breitbart News reported that the mega-retailer was offering at least 13 different “made in Mexico” sweatshirts that would “[allow you to] express yourself inside the opposition to the ideology, organizations, governments and people from the far right (fascism).”

The nation’s largest retailer Wednesday removed from its website a controversial t-shirt that threatens journalists, shortly after RTDNA and its Voice of the First Amendment Task Force sent a letter to the company’s top executives requesting its removal. The shirt, featuring the words “Rope. Tree. Journalist. SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED,” had been offered for sale on Walmart.com by a third-party seller, Teespring.com, which also offers on its site a coffee mug featuring the slogan. RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley sent a letter pointing out that the message sent by the shirts could “at the least … inflame the passions of those...

WASHINGTON - Walmart (WMT) has pulled a T-shirt offered by an outside seller from its online store after a journalist advocacy group told the retailer it found the shirt threatening. The shirt, listed on Walmart.com through third-party seller Teespring, said: "Rope. Tree. Journalist. SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED." "This item was sold by a third-party seller on our marketplace and clearly violates our policy," Walmart said. "We removed it as soon as it was brought to our attention, and are conducting a thorough review of the seller's assortment."
