Today was originally, Armistice Day, the end of World War I. Here's to my Grandfather, Edward Smith who served in a machine gun company in the Meuse-Argonne Forest and St Miheil battles. He saw more than any person should ever see and said very little about it to his wife or his son, my dad. It's said he suffered the ill effects of mustard gas. He did enjoy his time after the war in the Army of Occupation. Here's to grandpa, one of those Yanks who helped turn the tide of that awful war and bring it to an end.

I was looking about on the web for information on fundraising groups and came across this site that focuses on groups aiding military veterans.

I'm sharing this here because there isn't a single grunt who doesn't appreciate these loyal, faithful friends and guardians. I also know there are some reasonably high ranked grunts here, and a heck of a lot still hooked into the system who can spread the word. This is truly a vile act. They are not disposable sensor packages with teeth. They are friends. Colleagues. I don't even like dogs much, but having 90 lbs of warm fur and teeth watching over you is immensely reassuring.

FAIRBANKS — A recent survey of Eielson Air Force Base’s Lady of the Lake confirmed that the aircraft had a noteworthy history in the air before it was abandoned to its gravel pit lake grave. I' m an old Freeper just getting into the VA healthcare system in Eugene, Oregon. Today's first appt went great. Met my PCP, she gave me a free blood pressure monitor to keep a log. And my monthly prescriptions prices are lower (I don't have any other insurance). I am impressed so far. Look forward to future visits.

SIERRA VISTA — As the new Sierra Vista Health Care Center is getting closer to completion, what will happen to the half century old existing hospital is being contemplated. The not-for-profit Legacy Foundation of Southeast Arizona, the successor to the former hospital board, is looking at gifting the 90,000-square-foot hospital to the Arizona Department of Veterans Services (ADVS) as a Veterans Home and Assistance Center. President of France is giving speech, remembering the D-day, sacrifices and thanking veterans for their contribution to freedom. World dignitaries are sitting in the audience along with remaining veterans, Queen of England with her husband and other heads of states.
