At least five people are dead after a military transport plane crashed in Mississippi, according to reports. The plane came down early Monday evening, sending plumes of black smoke billowing into the air above a field near Moorhead, northwest of Jackson. Sheriff Ricky Banks told the Clarion-Ledger that at least five people had died on the aircraft, believed to be carrying nine.

President Trump stopped to retrieve the hat of a Marine guard Saturday evening after the wind blew it off his head. The wind then blew the hat right off again. The moment happened as Trump was about to board Marine One upon his return to the U.S. after attending the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. Moments earlier the president departed Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews with his wife Melania. (VIDEO AT STORY LINK)

Left-wing news outlet Vox attacked Marines on Memorial Day, claiming in an article that the Marine Corps has a “toxic masculinity problem.” The article, which was simply titled “The Marine Corps has a ‘toxic masculinity’ problem,” continued to claim that the Marine Corps often “marginalizes or mistreats female troops.” Citing the Marines United nude photo sharing scandal, Vox staff writer and defense correspondent Alex Ward attempted to link the Marines with systemic sexism and listed ways how the Corps could get rid of their “toxic masculinity.” “And to be fair, it’s not just the Marines. Sexual assault has increased in...

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran recovered from an illness to fulfill his goal of being the "something blue" at his niece's wedding in Missouri. Bill Lee Eblen, 92, was a sergeant in the Marine Corps during WWII and a sergeant in the Air Force Korean War, according to Alison Ferrell, Eblen's niece. "When I first I got engaged I knew I wanted to include Uncle Bill in a special way," Ferrell told Fox News. "My family always taught us to have a lot of respect for people in the armed forces. It just seemed like the perfect fit. Eblen was...

A new TV ad from the U.S. Marine Corps focuses on a woman in combat, the first commercial of its kind for the military branch. The woman starring in the new spot, Marine Capt. Erin Demchko, has served in Afghanistan and was a logistics officer on a Female Engagement Team, according to the Marine Corps website. “FETs build trust with local civilians to gather information and improve relations with the community,” says the website. “Capt. Demchko worked side by side with her fellow Marines to complete missions in the region.” The ad follows a young girl who stands up...

On May 13th, 1967, I was shot through my upper right thigh, shattering my femur and almost severing my leg. I celebrate this day every year because it was the day I almost died but through God’s grace, I have lived this half century more. I was a twenty-one year old Lance Corporal (E-3) in the Marines serving as an Artillery Scout (an enlisted Forward Observer) with Golf Company 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines (2/1) about 16 kilometers Southwest of Danang, Vietnam. Our company was on a local sweep a little north of Hill 55, following the edge of the Song...

The United State’s military may be about to undergo a radical change. The Marine Corps Times is reporting that there’s an initiative in the works that might see Marines branch out, away from the traditional model that trained every member of the Corps on the basics of physical combat. Some of the new Marines may even skip basic training. The idea gained momentum almost a year ago, when Former Defense Secretary Ash Carter suggested a military build up required soldiers with computer skills, and that these new recruits might be able to move into units with credit for their civilian...

The drive to Brownsburg, Virginia from my home is always a pleasant one. Driving south on Route 252 through the rolling hills and farmland of Augusta and Rockbridge Counties is like taking a trip back in time. Much of the landscape appears as it did 150 years ago. It is simply beautiful. But my most recent trip had an added benefit: I was headed to the home of Robert (Bob) J. Driver, Jr. to chat with him about his most recent book: The Confederate Soldiers of Rockbridge County, Virginia: A Roster . Driver’s circa 1795 home in the quaint village...
  • U.S. Marines Will Keep The Harrier Around Longer As Hornet Fleet Crumbles

Despite having the highest accident rate of any U.S. Marine Corps fixed-wing aircraft, the Marines will keep the AV-8B Harrier around longer than planned. The reason is simple: Marine F/A-18 Hornets are in far worse shape and need to be replaced sooner. In 2014, the Marines were committed to retiring the Harrier earlier than planned and extending the Hornet fleet, however, after an intensive review of the Harrier fleet and the rapid aging of Marine Hornets, the Harrier will be around longer than it was expected to be a few years ago. Quirky and complicated, the Harrier has had a...
  • As overseas ambitions expand, China plans 400 per cent increase to marine corps numbers, sources say

    South China Morning Post ^ | March 13, 2017 | Minnie Chan
China plans to increase the size of its marine corps from about 20,000 to 100,000 personnel to protect the nation’s maritime lifelines and its growing interests overseas, military insiders and experts have said. Some members would be stationed at ports China operates in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa and Gwadar in southwest Pakistan, they said. The expanded corps is part of a wider push to refocus the world’s largest army away from winning a land war based on sheer numbers and towards meeting a range of security scenarios using highly specialised units. Towards that end, Chinese President Xi Jinping...

What do you do if you're a woman in the Marines, and you make a sex video, and your fellow Marines see it? Claim you're being sexually harassed, of course! It seems that a number of female Marines are having sex with male Marines and filming it, and then, when they break up, the male Marines share the sex videos with their comrades. This is said to have provoked a major crisis in the Marines. Marine officials said the branch was looking into a number of Marines, as well as current and former service members, who shared naked and compromising...

Hundreds of US Marines swapped naked pictures of female recruits and veterans — many of whom had no idea that they had been photographed — on a secret Facebook page, a report says. More than two dozen women — including active-duty and enlisted service members — were spotlighted on the social media site and identified by their full name, rank and military duty station, CIR reported on its website Reveal.

Last week, the U.S. Marine Corps released a Request for Information to manufacturers enquiring about their capacity to produce 11,000 more M27 Infantry Automatic Rifles. This stoked rumors that the Marine Corps is looking to replace its M4s with the M27, which were first sparked last November when 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines was equipped with the M27 instead of the M4 during pre-deployment exercises as an experiment. The RFI for 11,000 M27s could indicate a possible push to replace the M249, which continues to be used by weapons platoons. However, I believe it is more likely that the Corps is...

In military bases across the country, portraits of Obama are coming down and Trump memes are reportedly taking their place. Federal policy dictates that all Obama portraits in court houses, post offices, government buildings and military installations needed to be removed by 12:01 p.m. on Friday, January 20th. Trump portraits need to take their place, but not everyone has received their official portraits yet. These photos shared on social media purportedly show what's taken their place in the meantime.

Retired Marine Gen. James Mattis was approved on Wednesday by the Senate Committee on Armed Services to serve as secretary of defense in Donald Trump’s administration. Mattis sailed through the committee, which voted 26-1 for him to lead the Pentagon. Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.) was the only member of the Senate panel to vote against the retired four-star general, who enjoys bipartisan support to head the Defense Department under President-elect Trump. Gillibrand has previously said she would oppose confirming Mattis because he only retired from the Marine Corps in 2013, while federal law requires a seven-year break between military...
