Police are investigating a shooting in Liberty City that sent a 10-year-old boy to the hospital. Investigators were at the scene in the 6300 block of Northwest 17th Court for hours Wednesday night going over every little detail, after the boy was caught in the crossfire next to the Liberty Square Community Center. Police say three people opened fire near a basketball court, striking the boy in the leg while he was riding his bike.

Baltimore police say a man was fatally shot in the western part of the city, continuing the month’s spike in homicides. Sgt. Jarron Jackson said in an email Friday that officers on patrol found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest about 4:30 p.m...

At least 56 people were shot over Memorial Day weekend between Friday afternoon and early Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Twelve people, including three shot Monday afternoon, died from their wounds. Twelve others shot between late Monday morning and early Tuesday morning survived their gunshot wounds, bringing the total of non-fatal gunshot victims for the weekend to 44.

The increase in violence that has followed the death of Freddie Gray continued through the weekend, with four homicides reported since Saturday, according to Baltimore police. Ten people were reported shot on Sunday alone, including three who were shot to death within a span of 39 minutes. The violence comes as the city prepares for the Preakness on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course. Ten people were also shot Thursday. At least 87 people have been killed in Baltimore this year, 22 more than at this time last year. Nonfatal shootings are up nearly 50 percent across the city.

Silence isn't something people usually associate with middle school, but twice a day the halls of Visitacion Valley School in San Francisco fall quiet as the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students meditate for fifteen minutes. And school administrators tell NBC News that the violence outside of the school, which is situated in one of San Francisco's poorest neighborhoods, was spilling into the school and affecting the students' demeanor. The family of a Milwaukee man who was fatally shot by a city police officer say they aren't giving up hope that the officer will be charged.
