Republican Rep. Fred Upton says he has received over 1,000 calls, including multiple death threats, since he voted Friday to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill – a measure he helped write earlier this year. The calls began when fellow GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, posted Upton's phone number online following the vote. She called him and the other 12 Republicans who voted for the bill "traitors." An Upton spokesperson said 90% of the calls are coming from outside the congressman's district in southwest Michigan. One man from South Carolina purportedly left a message in which he said, "I...

Joseph R. Biden Jr. swept into Benton Harbor, Mich., three weeks before the November elections, in the midst of his quest to reclaim the Midwest for Democrats. He took the stage at Lake Michigan College as Representative Fred Upton, a long-serving Republican from the area, faced the toughest race of his career. But Mr. Biden was not there to denounce Mr. Upton. Instead, he was collecting $200,000 from the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan to address a Republican-leaning audience, according to a speaking contract obtained by The New York Times and interviews with organizers. The group, a business-minded civic organization,...

The matter, known as a quark-gluon plasma (or QGP), is predicted to exist when temperatures and densities are so extreme that regular matter cannot exist. Instead, a “perfect liquid” exists for a short time before it cools and condenses into the regular stuff that forms the building blocks of matter. Although physicists have announced the detection of this exotic state of matter before, new results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory, in Upton, New York, appear to show the tiniest droplets of quark-gluon plasma appear, in a specific pattern,...

Kelly Ripa is on vacation this week so Live With Kelly and Michael scrambled to find women capable of making moms (and bloggers at home) laugh at crappy jokes. Today’s guest host was Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton. You may have heard of her. During the show’s opening monologue, while Michael told a riveting story about Kate Upton in a robe, ABC cutaway to breaking news. The U.S. had just launched airstrikes in Iraq against Islamic militant group, ISIS. Important news no doubt, and certainly worthy of interrupting Michael Strahan’s boring story about a half-naked Kate Upton and wait,...

The following letter was sent today to Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee: As your committee prepares for the upcoming House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on the recent GM recall, I urge you to use every opportunity to examine what, if any, influence the U.S. government's ownership of GM has had on this troubling failure to address the dangerously flawed vehicles. In addition, we urge your committee to consider posing the following questions to panelists at your hearing: 1. In late 2009, GM sued supplier JTEKT North America for $30 million over faulty...

/s. Do not support Upton's bill. It will allow people to pick what THEY want for THEMSELVES (gasp!), not what the gov't thinks is best, and secondly - and WORST OF ALL - it will allow shoddy plans that WON'T have maternity care for men, no prostate exams for women, no prenatal care for women past child-bearing age, and so on... Cruddy plans...shoddy plans...I tell you! And, BTW, we all know that the U.S. Constitution is outdated - Obama (as King) must unilaterally act on this. Congress cannot use legislative means. Anyway, legislative fixes, the Constitution, etc, is so passe...

The House easily passed Republican legislation on Friday allowing insurers to keep offering old insurance plans for another year in response to President Barack Obama’s broken “if you like it, you can keep it” promise.

President Obama is considering backing a bill by Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) that would force insurers to keep offering plans that were in existence this year, even if it means reinstating ones they had cancelled to get right with Obamacare’s standards, according to the Wall Street Journal. The legislation would be a step toward fixing Obama’s broken promise that under Obamacare, people could keep their insurance if they liked it, a vow that has turned out to be massively false. From the Journal: “Sen. Landrieu’s proposal shares a similar goal to what the president has asked his team to explore,”...

Those meetings already include the top four members of the House Republican leadership team. Ryan, the recently defeated GOP vice presidential nominee, is continuing as chairman of the House Budget Committee while Upton leads...
