Papua New Guinea must do more to protect women from anti-sorcery attacks, and conduct fair trials for those accused of attacking suspected witches. The United Nations issued an appeal to Papua New Guinea to take further action to prevent attacks on women accused of sorcery. The U.N. and human rights groups have charged that Papua New Guinea hasn't done enough to protect women -- and occasionally men -- from being attacked. In parts of the country, sorcerers are believed to be responsible for some mystery illnesses and deaths. In February 2013, a 20-year-old woman was burned to death after being accused...

The United Nations Environment Program aims to dramatically increase its role in running the world according to nebulous environmental principles, according to a strategic plan that will be presented to the U.N. General Assembly this fall. The principal objective of the plan is to “catalyze a transition” to a radical new global green economy, based on “low-carbon, low-emission, resource-efficient and equitable development”—a theme that will dominate the opening of the General Assembly in September, and culminate in yet another U.N.-sponsored summit of world leaders a year later, to endorse what the organization calls its “post-2015 development agenda.”

Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other. A few weeks ago, Israel abstained from a vote in the UN censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported [link at URL] that this is a sore spot for the White House and a diplomatic novum on the world scene.
