As Nazi Germany threatened war in Europe, Britain made efforts to strengthen ties with the United States, which included hosting one of the largest foreign pavilions at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. The pavilion’s centerpiece was Lincoln Cathedral’s Magna Carta, making its first appearance outside of Britain. ... When the United States entered World War II in December 1941, the Library evacuated Magna Carta, the Declaration, the Constitution, and other cherished treasures from its collections to Fort Knox, Kentucky.

U.S. Navy Cmdr. Ernest Krause is assigned to lead an Allied convoy across the Atlantic during World War II. His convoy, however, is pursued by German U-boats. Although this is Krause's first wartime mission, he finds himself embroiled in what would come to be known as the longest, largest and most complex naval battle in history: The Battle of the Atlantic.

BERLIN (AP) — All of Germany's six submarines are out of action, and the country's defense minister isn't happy about it. The Kieler Nachrichten newspaper reports that four U-boats are being serviced in boatyards while two others are waiting for a berth. Asked how Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen views the temporary loss of the underwater fleet, her spokesman said Friday that "this is obviously not a good situation." Jens Flosdorff told reporters in Berlin that "we would hope the mission readiness was higher, but sometimes with technology the devil is in the detail."

Whilst undertaking detailed seabed scanning for the development of windfarm projects in the East Anglia Zone, off the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk, windfarm developers ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) and Vattenfall uncovered something they weren't expecting -- an 'uncharted' wreck of a WWI German submarine, missing in action since 1915... SPR and Vattenfall used advanced sonar technology to scan over 6,000km2 of the seabed in the Southern North Sea over two years, which is nearly 4 times the size of Greater London (1,583km2). This work is critical to understand seabed conditions, and allow the companies to design the layout of their...

Shocking New Theory! The Titanic was sunk by a German submarine, not an iceberg, stunning new evidence reveals. "The one thing people think they know about the Titanic is that she struck an iceberg," says David Roberts, an historian with the Merseyside Maritime Museum in England. "However, based on survivor testimony, we can't necessarily make that assumption. In fact, when we look at the evidence, the only thing we can take for granted is that the Titanic skimmed past the iceberg, barely making contact with it. "Subprofiler images of the Titanic's hull have now proven that the damage she sustained...

American entrepreneur Gregg Bemis finally gets courts go-ahead to explore the wreck off IrelandIt is the best known shipwreck lying on the Irish seabed, but it is only today that the owner of the Lusitania will finally begin the first extensive visual documentation of the luxury liner that sank 93 years ago. Gregg Bemis, who bought the remains of the vessel for £1,000 from former partners in a diving business in 1968, has been granted an imaging licence by the Department of the Environment. This allows him to photograph and film the entire structure, and should allow him to produce...

THEY were Hilter's biggest threat to Britain. But the first time Scots naval officer John MacDonald set eyes on some of Germany's mighty U-boat fleet, they were just a vast, impotent armada. John was one of the few witnesses to the enemy's "grey wolves" surrendering in a secret operation on the remote sea loch of Eriboll in Sutherland. On May 20, 1945, he watched in amazement from an island mail boat as the Nazi submarines slowly surfaced in the 10-mile-long loch, their periscopes displaying black flags of submission. Operation Daylight was one of the most unusual episodes at the end...

Adolf Hitler's 'lost fleet' found in Black Sea By Jasper Copping  Last Updated: 2:36am GMT 03/02/2008     The final resting place of three German U-boats, nicknamed "Hitler's lost fleet", has been found at the bottom of the Black Sea. The submarines had been carried 2,000 miles overland from Germany to attack Russian shipping during the Second World War, but were scuttled as the war neared its end. Now, more than 60 years on, explorers have located the flotilla of three submarines off the coast of Turkey.   On the road: One of the U-boats being taken to Ingolstadt  ...

Driving home from work last Friday ( 4 June 04), I heard Sean Hannity playing some of the Democrats' speeches (Gore, Kennedy, and Dean) from the last few months. Sean and Gingrich (his guest) analyzed the false logic in the speeches, but it was the tone, the hatefulness, and pace of the delivery of the speeche that really caught my attention. The longer I listened the more I think they all had taken speech instructions from Hitler!
