The UK’s obligations in response to this week’s warnings from the UN over global warming will be controversial and politically fraught, taking the country into “uncharted territory” and testing the political consensus on climate change, the its top climate adviser has warned. The government will have to regulate industry and intervene in the market in ways that will prove controversial in parliament, predicted Chris Stark, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change (CCCP). He said reducing emissions by the amounts needed would “require answers that the market unfettered will not deliver”. Stark said the independence of the CCCP, which...

Neither a constitutional republic nor a democracy can survive that.” Princeton’s much-admired political theorist...

Hawley also called on McCaskill to join him in that call for special counsel. “I know that Sen. McCaskill and Sen. Feinstein are very close. Sen. McCaskill has worked with Sen. McCaskill today to put partisanship aside and support a special counsel to investigate these potential abuses,” Hawley said. “Sen. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh has taught us a lot about those on the left – namely that they seek to win at any cost, no matter the reputations destroyed, the lives forever changed, or the damage done to the constitutionally mandated confirmation process.

Impressive video!] NRATV host Dan Bongino issued a dire warning to Republican Senators on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s behalf on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Friday. “Tucker, if they let this guy go down, Brett Kavanaugh, if they let this character assassination of a father, a basketball coach, a son, and a dedicated public servant go down in flames,” Bongino stated. “If they let this happen, I can’t tell you, the GOP will be wiped, absolutely wiped out in the midterms. The French government has ordered Marine Le Pen, leader of the right wing National Front Party to undergo a psychiatric examination "to determine whether she must be confined to a mental institution for her own well-being." The proximate inspiration for this coercive order is Le Pen's opposition to the continued importation of Islamic fanatics into France. "This drastic move was made necessary by the earlier failure of massive fines imposed after Le Pen posted photos of ISIS terrorists massacring unbelievers on the Internet," Macron explained. "In France we respect the rights of individuals to freely practice their religion. The tenets...

Amid the current national debate over immigration policies, racial discrimination, LGBTQ rights, and executive power, the anniversary of an important legal and political dispute that has directly shaped that debate will pass quietly, its legacy all but forgotten. In September 1958, sixty years ago next week, the United States Supreme Court finally earned its hard-fought reputation as a co-equal branch of the federal government, in a courtroom drama filled with urgency and uncertainty. For perhaps the first time, the high court put muscle behind its mandate, asserting in unequivocal terms that its interpretation of the Constitution was the "supreme law...
