From  pjmedia.com: PJ Media obtained a never-before-released copy of a Texas DPS report on human smuggling containing the numbers of crimes committed by aliens in Texas.   According to the analysis conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, foreign aliens committed 611,234 unique crimes in Texas from 2008 to 2014, including thousands of homicides and sexual assaults. The precise number of homicides (presumably murders and non-negligent manslaughters) is listed as 2,993.  From the FBI UCR, Table 20, the murders and non-negligent manslaughters listed for Texas in those years are the following: 2008 1372, 2009  1325 2010  1246 2011 1089...

Texas health officials are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit by immigrant parents who were denied birth certificates for their U.S.-born children because local authorities refused to recognize as valid certain forms of identification. Lawyers representing 19 immigrant parents and their 23 children filed suit against the Texas Department of State Health Services after officials refused to issue birth certificates for their U.S.-born children, citing invalid forms of identification. The parents came from Mexico and Central America and living in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley, along the U.S.-Mexico border. Although the parents are not U.S. citizens, their children are,...

A liquor store clerk was attacked by a robbery suspect with a gun.  The victim fought back.  The fight ended up outside the store, where the clerk was able to get control of the gun and shoot the robber.  The suspect later died. This is the third robber who was shot and killed in Houston in the past few days.  Two others were shot and killed at a Super K by Diem Tu, as they pistol whipped his brother in law, Brian. A reporter covered the defensive shooting in Houston, where marksman, clerk, and brother of the owner, Dien Tu, shot and killed two of three armed robbers.  The robbers were attempting to rob the store and had pistol whipped his brother in law, Brian.   The reporter at khou.com gives this advice: Police advise clerks in this situation to give in to the demands of robber. It is not clear if this is actual advice from police in the area, or vaguely remembered propaganda by the reporter.  The store owner sees things a little differently, as reported in the next sentence:...

Police are searching for a cobra that is believed to have bitten an 18-year-old man who died Tuesday evening. Police believe Grant Thompson, 18, owned a monocled cobra and that it bit him in his car while at the parking lot of a Lowe’s at 13000 North Interstate 35. Thompson died after going into cardiac arrest, medics have said. Police said it is possible that the snake is still in the area and are asking anyone with information about the animal to call police at 512-974-5210. Police described the cobra as black with a distinctive circle on its back and...

The Democrat-Media Complex have just told us what they fear the most as an issue in the 2016 election: President Obama’s plan to “fundamentally transform” suburbia (as explained today by Jeannie DeAngelis). This is an issue that literally hits voters where they live, by using the denial of federal funding to override local control and force communities to provide low-income housing distributed to approved minority groups. Investor’s Business Daily reports that all three broadcast networks ignored the story that affects their viewers more directly than almost any other issue. The Big Three news networks all punted on covering one of...

On criminal can easily commit a large number of crimes.  Removing them from society does a great deal to lower the crime rate.   Often, it is an armed citizen who is on the scene and able to stop the crimes.  This recent example occurred in Perland, Texas.  A man in a close neighborhood stopped a minor crime wave by grabbing a gun and holding a burglary suspect for the police.   From thefacts.com: PEARLAND — A man suspected of burglarizing several cars on one street was caught when a neighbor pulled a gun after finding the man rifling through his...

Monday’s big election law news came from the Supreme Court’s penultimate decision of the term upholding Arizona’s congressional districts. But before handing down its last three decisions, the court made voting-rights advocates happy by deciding not to review a different election case. “Arizona citizens can continue to participate in voter registration drives without worrying about not having proof of citizenship documents,” Shirley Sandelands, of the League of Women Voters of Arizona, said in a statement Monday. The case, Kobach, et al. v. Election Assistance Commission, et al., was about whether Arizona and Kansas could require voters to prove their citizenship...

On Tuesday, after the entire Republican primary field - including Donald Trump and George Pataki - had taken a position on the Confederate flag, and after the Republican governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, had asked for its removal from the state capitol grounds, Chris Christie seemed to calculate that it was politically safe to do the same. The New Jersey governor said in a statement that Haley had "demonstrated what it means to be a leader" and that he commended her decision. ... Every Republican presidential candidate, including the not-yet announced ones, had said something, even if it was,...

AUSTIN, Texas — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton remain front-runners among Republican and Democratic primary voters in Texas, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll. If the 2016 primary elections for president were held today, Texas Republicans would favor Cruz over former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, 20 to 12 percent, widening Cruz’s one-point lead over Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in the February poll. The statewide poll was conducted using the Internet between June 5 and June 14 by the market research firm YouGov. The sample included 1,200 self-declared registered voters...

Police were continuing to negotiate with a man in an armored vehicle after he opened fire on Dallas police headquarters and led dozens of squad cars on a chase that ended in Hutchins. No injuries had been confirmed in the attack early Saturday, though the gunman told police he had been wounded. The man has identified himself as James Boulware, 50, who has a history of family violence and blames authorities for his losing custody of his son, Dallas police Chief David Brown said. The gunman said he was going to blow up police because they “took his child and...
  • Robert Reich: Texas officials are a disaster in their own right

As extreme weather marked by tornadoes and flooding continues to sweep across Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott has requested – and President Obama has granted – federal help. I don’t begrudge Texas billions of dollars in disaster relief. After all, we’re all part of America. When some of us are in need, we all have a duty to respond. But the flow of federal money poses a bit of awkwardness for the Lone Star State. After all, just over a month ago hundreds of Texans decided that a pending Navy Seal/Green Beret joint training exercise was really an excuse to take...

The campus carry bill passed the last hurdles in the Texas House and Texas Senate today, 31 May, 2015.  The bill was significantly altered during the debates in the House and in the conference committee, primarily because it was held up in the House calendars committee until near the end of the legislative session.  This  gave the minority of House Democrats leverage to insert restrictive amendments as a trade off to running out the clock. House Speaker Joe Straus is widely given responsibility for control of the Calendars committee; he appointed the members, who are seen as Straus loyalists. ...

Good and bad news for Texas knife law reform.  The good news is that HB 905 is headed to Governor Abbott's desk.  If only one knife reform bill is to pass this session, this is the preferred one.   The bad news is that knife decriminalization seems to have been killed. From texasguntalk.com: In a spot of good news, HB 905 (knife preemption) is on its way to Governor Abbott. Unfortunately, HB 3884 (decriminalization of "illegal" knives) was killed after Senator Whitmire double-crossed us. He agreed to sponsor HB 3884 and hear it in his committee, in order to get...

While second amendment supporters have been watching the progress of the open carry and campus carry legislation in Texas, another bill with significant effects has passed the Senate, the House, and will likely by signed by Governor Abbott.  The legislation is SB 273, and it preempts the ability of most government entities to ban people who have concealed carry licenses from carrying weapons on most of their premises.   The bill passed 26 to 5 in the Senate, and 116 to 23 in the House.    There are significant exceptions.  Carry is banned in schools, polling places while voting...

The Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to hear an important case about whether states must count only those who are eligible to vote, rather than the total population, when drawing electoral districts for their legislatures. The case from Texas could be significant for states with large immigrant populations, including Latinos who are children or not citizens. The plaintiffs claim that redrawing electoral districts based on the population of citizens and non-citizens alike violates the constitutional requirement of one person, one vote. The challengers claim that taking account of total population can lead to vast differences in the number of voters in...
