It was somewhat noticeable yesterday and unmistakable today. Has the worm actually turned? Local NBC (NBC!) news has been on for an hour and a half and no negative Trump crap period! I can't believe it. Lester Dolt coming on now and intro Trump free. No mention whatsoever! Was off this afternoon and driving around with news radio (CBS) in the truck and it was the same. It feels like the twilight Zone . . .

In a recent video posted to YouTube, Dallas city councilperson (we don’t want to accidentally misgender anyone) Sandy Greyson can be seen ranting about how upset she (oops, we assumed its gender) is that the city can’t just claim eminent domain over a man’s land. “This is an eminent domain case for a much needed water line” Greyson starts off. She continues with “And the Council is being asked today to go to settle this case with a man who has fought us for years and has cost Dallas taxpayers millions of dollars and intends to cost us millions more...

The "main attacker" in a brutal French Quarter robbery and beating has surrendered to New Orleans police, and officials urged three other suspects to do the same. Dejuan Paul, 21, a Kenner native who lives in New Orleans, turned himself in shortly after a Monday morning news conference (June 26) about the case, police said during an afternoon update outside of the Eighth District headquarters. The Saturday night attack on two visitors from the Boston area involved four perpetrators and injured both victims, one critically, in the 200 block of Bienville Street. The victims were walking back to their hotel...

If Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo has anything to say about it, his officers will shine at the head of the city's Pride Parade. The department's new "Pride Car" is ready to go. It's gassed up. Rainbow decals gleam from every side, saluting Houston's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Acevedo plans to be front and center Saturday and he's strongly encouraged his top leadership to join him in the march. "By actually participating ... we send a very powerful message that we're an inclusive department," he said, "where every segment of society is welcome, is respected, and will be...

On Thursday, California Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra said Texas and three other states were being put on a list of states that had adopted laws seen by Becerra as discriminatory to the LGBT community and therefore were off-limits for state-sponsored travel. That drew a response Friday from John Wittman, Abbott’s press secretary. "California may be able to stop their state employees, but they can't stop all the businesses that are fleeing over taxation and regulation and relocating to Texas,” Wittman said. A spokesman for Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin also criticized California officials. “It is fascinating that the very same West...

AUSTIN -- A day after California banned state-funded travel to Texas, citing a new Lone Star adoption law they say is discriminatory, Texas officials on Friday mocked the decision as a cheap political stunt. There were suggestions that Texas lawmakers might retaliate when they come into a special session starting July 18. "California might be able to stop their state employees, but they can't stop all the businesses that are fleeing over taxation and regulation, and relocating to Texas," said Gov. Greg Abbott's press secretary. John Wittman. Privately, Abbott aides and legislative leaders dissed the California move as hollow. noting...

In a move that will likely make the Trump administration really happy, a major manufacturer is shifting jobs from China to the U.S. Foxconn, the company known for making iPhones and other big-name gadgets, plans to invest $10 billion in a production plant in the U.S — specifically somewhere in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana or Texas. The plant could create up to 50,000 new jobs. President Trump hinted at this deal in June while visiting Wisconsin for his "workforce development" tour. "Just backstage, we were negotiating with a major, major, incredible manufacturer of phones and computers and televisions,"...

A mother has been charged with capital murder after her 4-year-old daughter was found Sunday evening stabbed to death in a northwest Harris County apartment complex. Deputies headed about 8:40 p.m. to the mother's apartment, in the 5600 block of Timber Creek Place, said Deputy Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "It's a horrible situation," Gilliland said, from the complex. The mother - whom deputies identified as Laquita Lewis - appears to have felt some remorse for her suspected actions. She contacted family members earlier that evening and told them she had hurt her child, Gilliland said. The...
  • How will Texas continue to pay for its highways?

The Housont Chronicle ^ | May 23, 2017 | Kyle Shelton, via The Urban Edge
Texas is a highway state. This reality stems from the need to meet the mobility demands of both sprawling metropolitan regions and vast rural areas.Paying for the state's massive system of highways has always been a challenge, however. Estimates from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) put the state's highway expansion and maintenance needs alone at nearly $383 billion by 2040. Existing public funding, projected to be $70 billion over the next decade, will not be able to cover that cost without unprecedented funding increases after 2026.While Texans are clearly amenable to paying for better roads — two recent state...

According to the National Motorists Association Foundation, the yellow light at that intersection should last a minimum of 5.5 seconds. The rapidly escalating tollway fines that have left some Texans owing thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars could be a thing of the past, based on an amendment that surprisingly found its way into a Texas Department of Transportation bill this week. But the impact to your pocketbook would depend on which tollway you’re driving. Under the amendment, a car owner who has driven on a tollway without paying — even hundreds of times — would owe at most $73 in fines every six months, plus the unpaid tolls. But that change, proposed by Rep. Ina Minjarez, D-San...

Gohmert argued instead that a spotlight should be shined on the collusion within the Department of Justice. “And now that we know the collusion...
