iPhone Manufacturer Wants To Create Tens Of Thousands Of US Jobs (Foxconn)

In a move that will likely make the Trump administration really happy, a major manufacturer is shifting jobs from China to the U.S.

Foxconn, the company known for making iPhones and other big-name gadgets, plans to invest $10 billion in a production plant in the U.S — specifically somewhere in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana or Texas. The plant could create up to 50,000 new jobs.

President Trump hinted at this deal in June while visiting Wisconsin for his "workforce development" tour.

"Just backstage, we were negotiating with a major, major, incredible manufacturer of phones and computers and televisions," Trump said. "And I think they're going to give the Governor a very happy surprise very soon."

And back in April, the Trump administration met with Terry Gou, Foxconn's chairman and the richest man in Taiwan. They talked about job creation, and specifically bringing manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.

This deal would be a nice feather in Trump's cap, especially since other manufacturers are leaving the country.

Carrier is reportedly laying off over 600 employees at its Indianapolis plant — even though Trump promised in December that the manufacturing jobs would stay.

Ford also announced last Tuesday that manufacturing for the Ford Focus will move to China. During his presidential campaign, Trump said decisions like that were "disgraceful."

MEGA WINNING! I worked for them indirectly about 10 years ago and it was the highest paying job I've ever had.

Excellent!

Trump cannot force things like this, but by his talk and indications he was willing to contemplate tariffs, he’s gotten some impressive movement.

The nation will be better off in four years. There’s no doubt about that.

Of course that’s providing some major international flare up doesn’t come first.

That’s why I wish we weren’t driving Russia toward worse relations.

Traitorous is a better word.

Ford cars are horrible.

They break down after a few years.

Well,... I’d agree with that for the most part.

Their efforts to prevent him from easing sanctions against Russia was definitely an insult as well as shot across his bow.

What I was referencing is Congress’ attempt to sanction Russia for things that are downright silly.

Russia hasn’t suddenly done something that required action. These idiots that don’t have time to pass good legislation, none the less find time to sanction Russia more.

This can’t help improve relations.

The media reported it out as a retaliation for Russia’s tampering with our election, which we all know they didn’t do.

Here’s a post where I documented the reasons for the sanctions, as reported by the media, and how that played into buttressing the Democrat’s claim that Russia did.

Trump cannot force things like this,

Tariffs are codified in the US Constitution as a way of fund the Federal government. Which worked well up when the progs took control in 1913.

I agree. I am not personally terrified by tariffs.

They can be used improperly, but in certain instances they can be a good thing, and certainly a motivator when it comes to nations who game the system as we know China has.

Small tariffs are reasoned.

As for that being a tax on citizens, they’re certainly better than toll roads, death taxes, and a myriad of other taxes nobody seem to get exercised over.

They are certainly better than being a cash pipeline to a nation that is intent on replacing the United States as top dog on the planet.

In my youth, it was Fix Or Repair Daily.

I’ve had a ford for 22 years now. I haven’t had a bit of a problem with any of them. My current one is 11 years old now, and it’s one of the best vehicles I’ve owned.

All autos have gotten much better. That’s why they are expensive. Most people trade too often and waste tens of thousands of dollars over time.

It’s all about appearance for some.

When I was young most cars were falling apart by 75,000 miles. Now most can go 250-350k with normal maintenance.

Also, the dumbest statement ever when faced with a repair is:

“That’s more than it’s worth, got to get a new one.”

It’s incredible the amount of money that is wasted using that way of thinking.

I agree with your comments.

When a big repair bill comes up, I think back on the payments I had been making, and how this bill only amounted to one to four of them, and then next month I wouldn’t have another one for a period of time.

It’s a lot easier to stomach when you think of it that way.

I haven’t had any of those large bills yet though.
