Character Abe Vigoda, whose leathery, sunken-eyed face made him ideal for playing the over-the-hill detective Phil Fish in the 1970s TV series "Barney Miller" and the doomed Mafia soldier in "The Godfather," died Tuesday at age 94. Vigoda's daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, told The Associated Press that Vigoda died Tuesday morning in his sleep at Fuchs' home in Woodland Park, New Jersey. The cause of death was old age. "This man was never sick," Fuchs said. He liked to tell the story of how he won the role of Detective Fish. An exercise enthusiast, Vigoda had just returned from a...

Legendary actor Abe Vigoda -- who starred in "The Godfather" -- died under hospice care at the age of 94 ... TMZ has learned. Abe's death had been falsely reported countless times, dating all the way back to 1982. Abe played Tessio in "The Godfather" and also "The Godfather Part II." In fact, he was still doing the voice for Tessio in 'Godfather' video games as late as 2007. His most famous role on TV was as Detective Phil Fish on the '80s sitcom "Barney Miller" ... which once worked the infamous hoax reports of Abe's death into a storyline.

“Without an honest confrontation, there is no healing.†That’s from Birth Of A Nation director-producer-star Nate Parker today onstage at the Sundance Film Festival. In what I have to say was one of the most emotional experiences I’ve had at a movie theater, Parker world premiered what he called his seven-year “passion project.†His telling of the early 19th century slave revolt led by Nat Turner had audience members crying in their seats and jumping to their feet in a prolonged standing ovation at the film’s conclusion.

The most controversial episode, as far as China is concerned, is one in season 16, where the Simpsons fly to China to help a relative adopt a baby. This involves the family passing through Tiananmen Square, where they see signs saying: "On this site, in 1989, nothing happened", and later encounter a tank - both references to the 1989 Tiananmen massacre. Homer also makes fun of Mao Zedong's embalmed body - whom he likens to "a little angel who killed 50 million people" and poses as a Buddha to enter an orphanage. China's authorities were also unlikely to be amused...

Corey Hawkins will star in the pilot for “24: Legacy†— the “24†revival series in the works at Fox — Variety has learned. The “Straight Outta Compton†alum has nabbed the leading role of Eric Carter in the pilot. As previously reported, the new “24†will not bring back Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer, so while Hawkins’ character is not a direct replacement, he will topline the potential series. (Sources tell Variety that while only a pilot has been ordered, “24: Legacy†is expected to land a 13-episode order.) Described as strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough...

Having won an Oscar, I'm safe. Otherwise, I suppose I would have had to get my agent at CAA to write a letter assuring the Academy that even though I haven't produced a film in the past 10 years, there are three scripts on his desk he has not yet been able to set up, thus indicating activity in the past 10 years. That is, unless you can count the short film I directed, which made it into several festivals, or the web series I directed, which was nominated for a Producers Guild Award. Or do the 15 years I've...

Clint Eastwood discussing the Oscars? "I don't know anything about it. I just don't that there are 1,000 people in the Academy and most of them haven't won Oscars. A lot of people are crying I guess." agree, it was for the most part a benign quote...

OBAMAS' LOVE BLOOMS IN 'SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU' BY SHELLEY ACOCA PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- It's the sweet, romantic story of a first date - albeit the fictionalized first date of the couple who currently occupy the White House. "Southside With You," the feature film based on Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson's first date, debuted Sunday to a packed house at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie tells the story of a single day in 1989 - the first day that summer associate, Harvard student Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers), spent with his adviser, Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter), a second-year associate...

... This week there have been waves of online sympathy over the passing of actor Leslie Nielsen prompting many to quote their favourite and most memorable lines from films such as Airplane! and The Naked Gun. The only trouble is Nielsen actually died in November 2010 aged 84 ...

One of the most anticipated movies at this year's Sundance Film Festival also turned out to be among the most divisive. On Friday afternoon, the Eccles Theater had to turn away hundreds of movie fans, and even a few industry VIPs, at the packed premiere of "Swiss Army Man," starring Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano. But the bizarre fable about a lost man (Dano) who befriends a farting corpse (Radcliffe) could win the festival's award for the most walk-outs, as a continuous stream of audience members kept standing up and bolting for the door throughout the film.

Gerald Molen, a voting member of the Academy who earned a best picture Oscar for producing Schindler's List, has some very choice words for the "spoiled brats" who are crying racism over the lack of diversity in the nominations this time around. "There is no racism except for those who create an issue. That is the worst kind. Using such an ugly way of complaining," Molen told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday. So far, Spike Lee, Michael Moore, Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith have said they will not attend the Oscars because all of the 20 acting...

Ronald Colman stars in this madcap comedy about an eccentric genius named Beauregard Bottomley (Colman), whose intellect has often been more hindrance than help in securing steady employment. Co-starring Celeste Holm, Barbara Britton, and Art Linkletter.

I was watching a mob documentary the other day on gangster "Crazy Joe" Gallo and it was mentioned that he modeled his real life character after a character in this movie, a thug named "Tommy Udo", portrayed by actor Richard Widmark. So I thought I'd see if I could find it on YouTube, and did. Turned out to be an excellent old-school gangster film. Some of you I'm sure have seen it. But, if not, it's one I'd recommend.

Chelsea Clinton launched a scathing attack on actress Charlotte Rampling on Friday in anger over her comments about the Oscars race row. Hillary's daughter took to Twitter and blasted the veteran actress and Oscar nominee. Rampling entered the debate early on Friday saying that plans to boycott the Oscars were misguided and calls to get more minority nominees were 'anti-white racism'. Clinton called her standpoint 'outrageous, ignorant and offensive'.

Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling says the current uproar over the diversity of this year’s Academy Awards is unfair to the white actors who were nominated. “It is racist to whites,†Rampling, who is nominated for best actress for her role in the British film 45 Years, told French radio station Europe 1 on Friday morning, in comments that were translated from French.

Obviously the piece is better at the original link (gifs and videos) but I've pasted the text below. Dear George Clooney, Ah, so it looks like you’ve decided to weigh in on the fake outrage of the day. I’m speaking of course of the boycotting of the Oscars being “too white.†I was wondering when you’d find the time to self-importantly chime in. South Park didn’t devote an entire episode to your “smugness†for nothing. Let me see if I’m reading you correctly... “If you think back 10 years ago, the Academy was doing a better job. Think about how...
