Gene Saks, an actor who switched to stage and film directing in midcareer, winning three Tony Awards and becoming the leading interpreter of the plays of Neil Simon, died on Saturday at his home in East Hampton, N.Y. He was 93.

A local radio legend has passed away. John Ed Willoughby died this morning after a long illness. Willoughby’s career spanned parts of five decades. He got started in radio as Tommy Charles' sidekick on Birmingham's WSGN-AM in 1975. He "retired" 30 years later but continued to host a Saturday morning sport talk show with Doug Layton until 2012. He retired then due to health issues. Willoughby was 80 years old. A funeral will take place 11 a.m. Saturday at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church.

Los Angeles residents can now dine from the hands of the "Machete" man himself. Our friends at Flama report that Danny Trejo, the actor known for his hard persona and movie roles as a villain, will open up Trejo's Tacos , a Mexican restaurant. Expected to open sometime in the Spring, the restaurant promises to bring, "the best tacos and craft beer," according to their Facebook page. The doors to Downton Abbey are finally closing. Carnival Films and ITV have announced that there will be no return to the famous home of the Crawley family after the sixth season airs, as they want to end on a high. Downton Abbey has been a huge international success, selling to broadcasters around the world, but its ratings in Britain had started flagging. George Fischbeck, a science teacher turned weatherman who joined KABC-TV in 1972 and spent nearly two decades exuberantly delivering the local forecast, has died. He was 92. Fischbeck, who was known as "Dr. George," died of natural causes early Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Fund retirement home in Woodland Hills, his daughter, Nancy Fischbeck, said. A trained meteorologist, George Fischbeck was so enthusiastic about his subject that he sometimes forgot to talk about the next day's weather.
