SarahPAC is off to a quick start on the fundraising end. From the Politico Sarah Palin’s political action committee raised nearly $733,000 in the first six months of 2009 and has more than $450,000 in cash on hand, according to new filings with the Federal Election Commission. While Republicans are hopeful that Palin will be a big fundraising help for them, her political action committee hasn’t exactly been a campaign-finance ATM. Since its formation in late January, it appears to have made just two political contributions — $5,000 to Palin’s 2008 running mate, Sen. John McCain, and $5,000 to Alaska’s...

Republican voters in Utah ousted Rep. Chris Cannon in Tuesday’s GOP primary, expressing their dissatisfaction with the six-term congressman over his left-of-center positions on immigration by nominating a challenger who made crackdowns on illegal immigration a central part of his platform. Cannon was trounced by Jason Chaffetz, the former chief of staff to Gov. Jon Huntsman (R-Utah.) With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Cannon trails Chaffetz by 20 points – 60 to 40 percent. He said that the United States went to war with far too few forces and was wrong to dismantle Saddam Hussein’s military and government, and he conceded that if more information had been available about Iraq’s weapons, Congress never would have approved the war.

Facing a split within his own party and sagging approval ratings over Iraq, the president faced a major challenge: to win over the American public and to win back the support of prominent Republicans, who oppose his strategy for Iraq.

What Congress did is disgusting. You heard what the Senate did to Tom Coburn's attempt to impose some sanity on spending. How do they live with themselves?Years ago, interviewing economist Walter Williams for a show ABC News called "Greed," I was perplexed when Williams said, "a thief is more moral than a congressman; when a thief steals your money, he doesn't demand you thank him."That was silly hyperbole, I thought, but watching Congress spend, I see that I was naive and Williams was right. When the Democrats held power, I confronted Sen. Robert Byrd about wasting our money on "Robert Byrd Highway"-type projects...

Not one hour ago, I posted my very first post on Free Republic: "Am I the ONLY One Who Noticed This at the Debates? I received many interesting comments, a few hysterical ones, several awfully kind "Welcome to Free Republic" comments (for which I'd like to thank you bloggers again)and finally.... I also received this one very rude comment: "You're really stretching. Is this the only reason you joined Free Republic. To post this?" So I answered this blogger by telling that they "inspired me to post again tonight." What I want to tell you, fellow FR bloggers, is why...

We recommend Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan or Alan Keyes... President Bush needs a wake call and your vote is a great way to send him a message.

The Christian Coalition of America is supporting Governor Riley's tax and accountability plan, even though the Christian Coalition of Alabama is opposing it. The president of the Christian Coalition of America says Riley's plan is a bold initiative reflecting the Christian goal of helping those in need. This is the first time the national organization and any state organization have split on an issue. The Christian Coalition of Alabama voted in May to oppose Riley's plan. The state president -- John Giles -- was caught off guard Wednesday by the national president's visit to Alabama to endorse Riley's plan.
