Parents of students at a California high school are reacting to news that a long-time male high school science teacher is going to return after spring break as a woman. The teacher, Gary Sconce, informed the Yosemite School District that he will be back in the classroom April 22 as his "true self," a woman by the name of Karen Adell Scot, KFSN-TV reported Thursday.

The U.S. Justice and Education departments said Wednesday that a transgender California student who is anatomically female but lives life as a male must be able to use school bathrooms, locker rooms and other facilities designed for boys. The first-of-its-kind decision from the agencies tasks the Arcadia school district outside Los Angeles to change district policies and practices to accommodate the rising ninth-grade student. On Friday, a judge ordered that 22-year-old Luis Rijo De Los Santos be held in lieu of $300,000 bail.
