  • FBI warns against "Radical Traditionalist Catholic Ideology": Suggests that anyone who prefers traditional Latin mass is prone to racism or xenophobia and violence

Isn’t the FBI’s reputation with much of the public already far enough in the toilet without tossing something like this onto the bonfire? A recently leaked internal FBI memo from their Richmond office warned agents about the lurking danger of “radical traditionalist Catholic ideology” (RTC ideology). The document spoke of “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism,” suggesting that anyone who prefers to attend traditional Latin mass is somehow prone to racism or xenophobia and violence or whatever. Oh, and they allegedly also tend to be anti-Semites, so they’re probably out there attacking synagogues. Honestly… you just can’t make this stuff...

In 2022 many American conservatives are in a state of acute anxiety, convinced that they are under siege as never before and that they are losing. Across the nation, the commanding heights of the federal bureaucracy, the news media, the entertainment industry, Big Tech, and the educational system from preschool to graduate school are dominated by people who seem increasingly hostile to conservative beliefs. In social media and elsewhere, identity politics and the ideology of “wokeism” appear to reign supreme, and a censorious left-wing “cancel culture” operates with virtual impunity. Adding to the sense of conservative vulnerability is the declining...

For many decades now I have been wracking my brain trying to understand how things work and why nothing seems to make sense. The following observations/theories are my own and no one else is responsible in any way. Let's look at this freak show of a political coalition: Fundamentalist Blacks, theocratic moslems, sixteenth century Hispanic folk Catholics, scientific materialists, indigenous shamanism, hex-casting "wiccans," and people who put up statues of their conception of "the devil." Maddening, isn't it? I would first like to point out that the basic thrust of the left is the celebration of what it considers to...

Catholic Traditionalism Booming in Latin America Pachamama triggers liturgical backlash ROME (ChurchMilitant) - The rise of Catholic traditionalism in Latin America, rooted in the Latin Mass, is rapidly reversing the long march of progressivism and Protestantism. "We see that traditionally oriented churches and seminaries are increasingly full, especially with young people, while those of progressive orientation, increasingly empty," Juan Migel Montes, director of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP), Rome, told Church Militant.  "Catholic traditionalism is back in fashion," an upbeat Montes said. "This explains the defeat the Left is suffering in ballot boxes everywhere as the social, political and cultural realities linked...

Why We Should Go Back To the Traditional Reception of Holy CommunionThe Traditional Reception of Holy CommunionThroughout the history of the Catholic Faith specifically in the Roman Rite of the Mass, the reception of Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue is the established tradition. This has been true for various centuries dating as far back as the Early Church. This is itself the tradition of the Church and is still the norm in the Extra-Ordinary form of the Mass. It was not until the ecclesiastical revolts and dissent during the 1960s and 1970s in which this tradition started falling...

Before us lies eternity: our souls are love, and a continual farewell. — “Ephemera,” W.B. Yeats LAWRENCE AUSTER, traditionalist writer and culture critic, was buried by friends and family on Tuesday, April 2 in Pennsylvania. His body was carried at 11:30 a.m. into the vestibule of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mount Airy in a simple oak coffin made by Trappist monks in Iowa, a fitting enclosure for a man who lived as austerely as a monk, without many of the basics of modern life, such as cell phone, car or cable television. The church was just two miles...

ALAN writes: "On a recent Sunday afternoon, I had the most incredible experience: I sat in a roomful of 50 men and women who had lunch, talked, reminisced, and enjoyed themselves for four hours. The incredible part was that they did all that without cell phones, without liquor, without vulgar language, without loud “music,” without blaring TV screens, and without wrecking the place. All of them are white. All of them are decent and disciplined. They are, therefore, atypical 21st-century Americans. They grew up in the 1930s, ‘40s, and ‘50s. They are Old School. They are not “cool” or trendy;...

In 1789, in the [French National] Assembly, the increasingly alarmed partisans of the ancien régime sat on the right-hand side (Côté Droit) of the president, the revolutionaries on his left-hand side (Côté Gauche). This terminology was first made familiar to the English-speaking world by Thomas Carlyle, in Volume I of “The French Revolution”: “Rudiments of Methods disclose themselves; rudiments of Parties. There is a Right Side (Cote Droit), a Left Side (Cote Gauche); sitting on M. le President’s right hand, or on his left: the Cote Droit conservative; the Cote Gauche destructive.” That recognition of the character of so-called progressive...

I have made no secret of my disagreement with the Traditionalist rejection of the Second Vatican Council or the movement’s refusal to be obedient to papal authority. Since Pope Benedict XVI lifted the excommunication of the four bishops who preside over the Society of St. Pius X, I have reiterated these views, and have tried to identify the remaining obstacles to the restoration of the SSPX to full communion with the Church. The result has been a steady stream of correspondence from both Traditionalists and those sympathetic to them, a correspondence characterized by not only defensiveness but pain. In using...

We at American Thinker have covered the first shots in the conflict between traditional conservatives and what many are referring to as conservative "elites." Just this week, we've featured several excellent articles on our front page including "Betting Against the Elites on Sarah Palin by J. Robert Smith and "Noonan's Slipped a Peg" by Jan LaRue. We will continue to follow this ideological struggle closely because we believe it to be the most important story of this young century. Who is a conservative? Who gets to decide that question? Has conservatism "failed?" These and other questions will no doubt roil...

ROMA, April 23, 2007 – In “La Civiltà Cattolica,” the magazine of the Rome Jesuits printed with the prior scrutiny and authorization of the Vatican secretaiat of state, a review has been published that signals the end of a taboo. The taboo is the one that has obliterated from public discussion, for decades, the thought of the most authoritative and erudite representative of criticism of the twentieth century Church in the name of the great Tradition: the Swiss philologist and philosopher Romano Amerio (in the photo), who died in Lugano in 1997, at the age of 92. Amerio, although he...

Echoes of our own dissenters can be heard in the Holy Mountain. Folks, for the last few days I've been tracking several news streams regarding the eviction of a number of monks from the ancient Esphigmenou monastery, located in the monastic republic of Mount Athos—also known as the "Holy Mountain"—in Northern Greece. Most Orthodox Christians see the monks residing in the various Athonite monasteries the theological trend-setters of their communion. BackgroundThe current dispute centers on ecumenism. The current residents of the Ephigmenou monastery refuse to recognize the Orthodox-Catholic rapprochement, of which the late visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Patriarch...

Exposing America’s Enemies: The ‘Social Justice Seeking’ Communist Left October 03, 2006 Vox Populi By Linda Kimball On one hand, Americans were outraged and appalled by the 1 May immigrant demonstrations that clogged streets and virtually closed down some cities. Law abiding citizens saw lawbreakers who not only seemed to feel justified in their criminal behavior, but also believed they ought to be rewarded for it. On the other hand, Americans are more infuriated and disgusted with their duly elected government officials in both legislative and administrative branches for not enforcing the law and protecting the rights of citizens.
