Conservative Civil War well underway
American Thinker ^ | 10/26/2008 | Rick Moran

Posted on 10/26/2008 1:00:47 PM PDT by BuckeyeTexan

We at American Thinker have covered the first shots in the conflict between traditional conservatives and what many are referring to as conservative "elites." Just this week, we've featured several excellent articles on our front page including "Betting Against the Elites on Sarah Palin by J. Robert Smith and "Noonan's Slipped a Peg" by Jan LaRue.

We will continue to follow this ideological struggle closely because we believe it to be the most important story of this young century.

Who is a conservative? Who gets to decide that question? Has conservatism "failed?"

These and other questions will no doubt roil conservative media outlets, think tanks, and conferences for the next several years. I hasten to add that this is a healthy thing for the right - as long as the debates stay away from the personal and concentrate on issues and tactics.

But perhaps, that's too much to ask. Already, as we have seen, there are some influential conservatives who believe that some of the "elites" in Washington and New York have failed to help the movement by their tepid support of McCain and, most importantly, how they view the personality, the politics, and the future of McCain's running mate Sarah Palin.

As this interesting perspective penned by Tim Shippman of the UK Telegraph shows, the fault line in the conservative schism is most evident between those who love Palin and those who don't:

Noonan is not a conservative. More like a “war” between conservatives and RINOS.

Conservatism IS America. When conservativism fails, America has failed.

The problems we have are labeling people. I don’t really consider myself a conservative but just someone who knows how to read and comprehend the Constitution.

We also scare the middle voters by trying to push this country more conservative since the media has demonized that name. Ronald Reagan didn’t win because he was a conservative. He won by convincing the voters he was an all around nice guy and making fun of the Washington elite.

I don’t think it will drag on for too long. The apologists are on the losing side, and their time is running out.

McCain wins and we will have shown the elitists of our party who delivers.

The ‘Republican’ elites are essentially Rhino’s. This has been proved over and over. This is why Republican’s in the Senate and Congress are going to get creamed in November.

Remember that pesky Immigration Amnesty Bill where the overwhelming majority of the USA wanted defeated?

What about that Border Wall that was torpedoed over and over by President Bush and our Senate/Congress leaders that to this day is still not built?

We need to real conservatives who will not raise government spending 40% as our ‘Republican’ leaders did.

Have you seen that picture of President Bush that has a byline that says....”Saving America’s a** whether you like it or not”.....that’s how I feel now......CONSERVATIVES....SAVING America whether you Like it or NOT!

They're prognosticating and jockeying for position in the New World Order that they think is about to happen.

Remember Christie Todd Whitman's book that came out the day after election day (was it 2004?), "It's My Party, too". The release date was picked to co-incide with "Kerry Wins" headlines.

"making fun of the Washington elite."

YEP....that's what I've started doing is referring to Obamanites as ELITISTS....that seems to resonate more.

If BO wins this election, it will be because he has (1) deceived some of the conservative population by saying he will cut taxes and create jobs and (2) made sure Mickey Mouse was allowed to vote. There aren’t enough liberals in this country to put him in office legitimately.

There is no war in the “conservative movement” because it’s not a “movement.” It’s static.

Not only are "conservative" Republicans going to need to defend on where they stood on Sarah Palin, many of us will be asking the question, "where did you stand on Terri Schiavo?"

It's about time (the day after the ballot counting ceases, not necessarily November 4th)that conservatives, who stand for something besides the next election, have a hard conversation with those whose livelihood rests on being considered as "pundits" and "talking heads," columnists in liberal newsrooms and the rest of the real people who "walk the walk" day in and day out in America.

Where we stand before man will not be nearly as uncomfortable as where we all shall be someday, standing before God.

I think the current state of America demonstrates perfectly the need to teach our children American History. American History the way it actually occurred. Not the way liberal school teachers wish it had occurred. At the present time, our children are being taught that America is nothing but an evil place.

"Has Conservatism failed?"

MartinLuther

Not bloody likely. We're just going through a little Reformation, and the established elites don't care for it one bit. Some have even gone over to the "dark side".

No, he won because he made it clear that he was a conservative, who was an all around nice guy and poked fun at the Washington elite.

It’s not a civil war; it’s a putsch by RINOs who want to position the Republican party as a wing of the Democrat party.

I think when you publically say your going to vote for Obama, you have jumped ship so to speak... --- "Other Republicans have jumped ship completely. Ken Adelman, a Pentagon adviser on the Iraq war, Matthew Dowd, who was Mr Bush's chief re-election strategist, and Scott McClellan, Mr Bush's former press secretary, have all endorsed Mr Obama. But the real bile has been saved for those conservatives who have balked at the selection of Sarah Palin. In addition to Mr Frum, who thinks her not ready to be president, Peggy Noonan, Ronald Reagan's greatest speechwriter and a columnist with the Wall Street Journal, condemned Mr McCain's running mate as a "symptom and expression of a new vulgarisation of American politics." Conservative columnist David Brooks called her a "fatal cancer to the Republican Party".

The likes of her and her 1996 convention co-speaker Suzie have destroyed the GOP. They as such are not Conservative but rather Liberal Republicans clinging to the political doctorines of Nelson Rockefeller.
