TORONTO - The Shopsy’s Deli chain has assigned a new name to a featured sandwich which was called the “Bill Cosby” for years. The corned beef sandwich had been named after the embattled comedian for several years before the current owners bought the restaurants, said Gavin Quinn, president of the Irish Embassy Group. The company bought Shopsy’s around eight years ago with the sandwich already on the menu. “I don’t even think people really associate it with the celebrity,” Quinn said. “They know it more as a food item.” A number of women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them....

A sophisticated tunnel has been discovered near a major sporting venue and a university in Toronto, reports said Monday, with Canada on edge over the threat of possible extremist attacks. A municipal worker was walking through woods near York University and the Rexall Center last month when he spotted a piece of corrugated metal on the ground, lifted it up and found a passageway, the public broadcaster CBC said. The tunnel was about 23 feet long and 22.5 meters tall and was lit by an electric generator. The walls and ceilings had been reinforced and tools had been left inside....

National security officials have been notified that an underground tunnel was discovered near a venue for this summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto, CBC News has learned. The tunnel was dug in the woods near Toronto's Rexall Centre and York University's Keele campus. It was large enough for a person to stand in, at around 2½ metres in height, and was about seven metres long. The tunnel had lights inside, powered by a generator, and the walls and ceiling were reinforced. Sources told CBC News that the tunnel was filled in by authorities.

The advertising campaign in New York telling men to stop “manspreading” has cost the city’s taxpayers more than $76,000.“Dude…Stop the Spread, Please” was the biggest takeaway from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) new campaign announced last month, instructing riders on proper subway etiquette. “Manspreading” is when a man keeps his legs apart while sitting.Invoices obtained by the Washington Free Beacon from the MTA through a Freedom of Information Law request reveal that the campaign has cost $76,707.70.The MTA hired Edison Lithograph and Printing Corp. to print thousands of posters and placards, which will appear in 2,600 subway cars. Being a believer in all -isms can get hairy at times. Take as an illustration a case reported in the Toronto Sun by Ezra Levant: So a lesbian walks into a Muslim barbershop, and asks for a “businessmen’s haircut”.It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it really happened, and now a government agency called the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario will hear her complaint.Faith McGregor is the lesbian who doesn’t like the girly cuts that they do at a salon. She wants the boy’s hairdo.Omar Mahrouk is the owner of the Terminal Barber Shop in Toronto. He follows...

GLAAD is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation. The OIC is the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, a 56-state organization which constitutes the largest voting bloc in the UN. At first glance, the two groups would not seem to have much in common—particularly when one considers the general antipathy toward homosexuals in the Muslim world.Upon further consideration, however, there are some interesting similarities between the two groups. For example, both are in the anti-defamation business. So as not to exclude bisexuals and transgenders, GLAAD no longer uses the full title, but its mission—to protect the gay community from...

If the end result of a war is an exchange of territory, the outcome of a revolution is ultimately the exchange of real estate. The house at 716 Gerrard Street East is an apt illustration of the downward mobility of the politically displaced. Listed last week on MLS, the modest two-story Riverdale semidetached was the final residence of the Tsar Nicholas II’s last surviving sibling, Grand Duchess Olga Alexandranova. The highest ranking member of the Russian imperial family to emigrate to North America, Olga convalesced in the care of Russian friends who ran the beauty shop on the main floor....

Yesterday was a sad day for the nation’s bloggers. After a long, fruitful run of stories involving binge drinking parties, DWI, crack smoking and gaffes which provided fodder for late night shows and web editors alike, the Ford family will exit the offices of the Toronto mayor. Rob Ford’s brother Doug has lost his last minute bid to replace his ailing sibling. Doug Ford, the almost equally colorful brother of blustery, crack-smoking Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, lost his bid to succeed his brother in the city’s top job Monday night — but the scandal-ridden mayor was elected to the...

TORONTO - Here's the story: Toronto's new mayor is John Tory. As the polls predicted, the frontrunner cruised to victory on Monday night defeating Olivia Chow and Doug Ford in the race for the city's top job. The Tory win caps off a 10-month long campaign and sets the stage for a much quieter Toronto City Hall after Mayor Rob Ford's turbulent reign.

John Tory's unfair smear against Doug Ford has badly backfired against John Tory Once again on the brink of victory, John Tory has falsely accused his main rival, Doug Ford, of being, racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic.” It looks like déjå vu, all over again In 2007, the then Ontario provincial Conservative leader John Tory, ahead in the polls in a provincial campaign. was cruising to victory. But then Tory, unbeknownst to his closest advisers, decided to pander to the many ethnic and religious groups in Ontario. So Tory then launched into a campaign for the public funding of private faith-based...

Writing for LifeSiteNews, Pete Baklinski notes how, "Girls in first grade in a Toronto Catholic school will be sharing a washroom this year with a biological boy whose lesbian parent has chosen to identify him as a 'girl.' A mother whose young daughter attends the school in the Toronto Catholic District School Board is concerned about the implications of allowing a biological boy to share her daughter’s washroom and changing room, especially as the boy moves into puberty. The mother, under condition of anonymity, shared her concerns with Phil Lees, president of Public Education Advocates for Christian Equity (P.E.A.C.E.), who...

Rob Ford, the controversial mayor of Toronto who became an international celebrity last year after acknowledging using crack cocaine in a “drunken stupor,” is believed to have a tumor in his abdomen, health officials said. Dr. Rueben Devlin from Humber Regional Hospital said Wednesday night that Ford had been complaining of abdominal pains and that an examination has resulted in a working diagnosis of a tumor. Mayor Ford has a tumour in his abdomen, doctors say, but it will be a few days before we know the true scope of his diagnosis. Dr. Rueben Devlin, president and CEO of Humber River Hospital, made the announcement Wednesday night with the mayor’s brother Coun. Doug Ford by his side. Doug Ford was visibly upset as he spoke to media asking for privacy for himself and his family. He would not answer any questions about what the mayor’s health setback would mean for the mayoral campaign. “It saddens me that I have to be here today,” Ford said. “Rob...

If organizers are insistent in holding the event they could always agree to march in the nude or carry “Death to Israel!” signs. That should do it for the city once known as 'Toronto the Good'. With less than a month to go before the parade expected to draw thousands of participants, Toronto bureaucrats told the organizers of the annual event that it could not be held. Although excuses were given, there is no other logical explanation other than the cancellation of the event, held without incident for the past 14 years, was nothing more than Christian-bashing. According to Canada...
