A group of anti-Confederate protesters aren’t happy enough with the declaration by the city of Memphis that it wants to dig up and move the remains of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest. They want it done now. A group surrounded a shovel Wednesday and ceremoniously removed a chunk of grass and soil.

In the wake of the Chattanooga shootings, in which five unnamed U.S. servicemen were murdered by a self-radicalized jihadist, U.S. Army Chief of Staff Ray Odierno suggested that allowing soldiers on base or at recruiting centers “could cause more problems than it solves.” With all due respect to his service and status, this is nonsense.

It all started off so well for Secretary of State John Kerry. At the beginning of his testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about the deal he crafted with Iran, Kerry got a hero’s welcome from a group of observers to the hearing.
