A senior software engineer at Google with responsibility for a key feature of Google’s search engine labeled Tennessee Senate candidate Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) a “violent thug” and a “terrorist,” who Google shouldn’t “negotiate” with, according to internal emails obtained by Breitbart News. The employee also defended the censorship of her campaign ads on social media. The comments took place in an internal email discussion that began on June 19 this year. The topic of discussion was Rep. Blackburn’s Fox News op-ed of the same month, which urged Silicon Valley companies to address bias against conservatives on their platforms. Blackburn,...

SODDY-DAISY, TENN. — A Tennessee assistant principal was placed on administrative leave Wednesday after he recorded a video addressing a ban on athletic shorts, in which he suggested male students “blame the girls” for the ban. “If you really want someone to blame, blame the girls, because they pretty much ruin everything,” Jared Hensley, who also serves as Soddy-Daisy High School’s athletic director, said in the video. The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that the video, addressed to students and called “A Helping of Hensley,” was removed from YouTube shortly after Hensley posted it, but another YouTube user reposted a 60-second...

LEBANON, Tenn. — Democratic former Gov. Phil Bredesen quickly promised not to vote for Minority Leader Chuck Schumer as his Republican opponent U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn repeatedly sought to tie the former Tennessee governor to national Democrats in their first debate for U.S. Senate on Tuesday. Blackburn reiterated multiple times that Bredesen’s campaign “is bought and paid for” by Schumer, doubling down later with reporters that Schumer recruited Bredesen to run for the open Senate seat and pointing out that he’s previously donated to and at times has praised Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and other leading Democrats. Meanwhile, Bredesen responded...

A Tennessee inmate who was serving a 68-year prison sentence for aggravated kidnapping seemed to be in the clear after escaping from Morgan County Correctional Complex. He was missing for two days, but authorities caught a break when Robert Fusco tried to sneak back into the minimum security prison with contraband items. Fusco was found with drugs, tobacco, and cell phones when he was taken into custody. Officials said that Fusco did not work alone and charged seven others, including two former correctional officers, in the scheme to bring illegal items into the prison to sell them on the black...

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is "screwing" over his Democratic colleagues by keeping them in session this October and therefore keeping them off the campaign trail, according to Politico's Burgess Everett. "Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning to keep the chamber in session for a significant portion of October if not four entire weeks, costing Democrats key campaign trail days and allowing the Senate to continue its work into the fall, according to five Republican officials," Everett writes . Yet, Republicans say two weeks is plenty of time for their Democratic colleagues to make their case to voters. Burgess Everett...

The Kentucky Republican identifies a large number of toss-up contests The 2018 midterms are setting up to be like a “knife fight in an alley,” according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Republican from Kentucky said he expects to see more of President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama on the campaign trail. But McConnell, asked about whether Trump should be talking about the prospects of Democrats trying to impeach him, said, “I don’t have any advice to give him about what he says at the rallies.” Speaking at a news conference Tuesday in Louisville, McConnell rattled off...

The new NBC News-Wall Street Journal survey, taken six weeks before Americans head to the polls, shows Democrats leading Republicans by 52 percent to 40 percent for control of Congress. If it holds, that 12 percentage point margin would suggest a "blue wave" large enough to switch control of not just the House but also the Senate.

Former Vice President Al Gore compared the Trump administration to an experiment that’s “terminated early for ethical reasons,” in an interview with MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell that also touched on the upcoming election and man-made global warming. On global warming, Gore repeated to Mitchell the line he uses in nearly every speech: “Every night on the television news is like a nature hike through the book of Revelation.”

Not by one or two points either. The lead in Tennessee is five while the lead in Arizona is seven. Both states are supposed to be gimmes for the GOP, but CNN notes that each happens to be the home of a vocal Trump critic in the Senate who’s now retiring. Tennessee is Bob Corker country whereas Arizona is the home of Jeff Flake. I wonder how many Trump-skeptic Republican voters in each state have taken the senators’ criticisms of POTUS to heart and concluded that the best message they can send to the White House is to cross over...

NASHVILLE — A new CNN poll puts Democrat Phil Bredesen with a 50-45 percent lead over Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee's U.S. Senate race. The SSRS survey of 723 likely voters, conducted Sept. 11-15, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percent.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) called for the vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court to be postponed until the woman accusing him of sexual assault be allowed to speak with senators on the Judiciary Committee. Corker, who doesn't sit on the committee, told Politico on Sunday that the panel should wait until Christine Blasey Ford can meet with senators. "I think that would be best for all involved, including the nominee,” Corker said of postponing the vote. If Ford wants her side of the story to be heard, Corker said, “she should do so promptly.” Corker’s remarks echo...

Normally red Tennessee of all places -- a state Donald Trump won by 26 points -- is very much in play in the 2018 Senate race. Phil Bredesen -- a popular former governor opposing also popular Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn -- is running a smart, stealthy campaign. Democrats and their media friends are naturally pleased. New York magazine details the strategy: ....Bredesen’s opponents are making sure everyone knows about the “D” next to his name. So far, though, he’s been careful to fly far underneath the national radar, garnering a tiny fraction of the headlines and online virality surrounding someone like...

After Roseanne Barr’s former costar gave us a pretty good indication of what the future holds for her character on the new spinoff show (spoiler alert: she doesn’t have a future in corporeal form), we were able to guess what direction the show was taking. But what about Roseanne herself? Is there room for a comeback after her allegedly racist Twitter rants or is she all washed up? Ms. Barr showed up on a podcast this week to bring everyone up to date on her plans and they’re probably not what you were expecting. First of all, she won’t be...
